Used to buy and sell them all the time at gun shows.
What is the current federal legality in terms of possession, buying, selling, or shipping? I imagine shipping is a nightmare now, but what about the other aspects? Thanks |

No federal laws against smoke grenades. You can buy the M18 in different colours.
I'm not sure about CS grenades. State laws might prevent them. |

There is discussion that the initiator may be considered explosives by the ATF, and thus require explosive permits/storage, but I'm having trouble finding a source on that.
More recently, the ATF revoked an exception for multiple civilian smoke grenades, thus now requiring permits/storage for "explosives." https://www.atf.gov/explosives/docs/open-letter/all-fels-nov-2023-notification-previously-exempted-special-explosive/download |
