Got an email blast from Sportsman’s Guide that they have surplus French/pro masks and carrier for $60. I would like to get two or three for the family just because, know very little about what is considered good enough to purchase.

If these aren’t ok or there’s a better option for the money, I’d love to hear about them.

You mean France France?  The France whose a$$ we had to save in 2 world wars?  The France who left us holding the bag in Vietnam?  I wouldn't trust any thing "France" as GTGO.  Macon has cemented France as a socialist police state.

I bought 2 of these online last year late spring/early summer for the listed price (They are Out of stock), they were basically unissued. I'm sure they just sat on a shelf in a police equipment room. I checked all the gaskets and wax rings and did a positive and negative air pressure check with a 40mm filter and they performed as well as my issued gas mask at work.

I prefer the side mount filter vs. the center mount.

Cheap gas masks have become scarce with all the rioting last summer in particular, almost every single person at the Federal courthouse in Portland at night when shit got dicey had a gas mask on.

If the French ones look solid and have good reviews I'd go for it as long as they take a common filter size, I didn't look but being that they're French they're probably a 40mm NATO thread pattern. I do like that it is one large lens instead of a goggle type like my personal one, I use the large lens type at work they definitely give you a better FOV.

I would trust French equipment unreservedly. The French have supported us unwaveringly in Afghanistan and are doing the heavy lifting in Africa. They’ve committed their carrier to South China Sea ops as well. None of that has anything to do with the question, which was how is the gear. The gear is just fine.

Just buy USGI. You can get lens protectors, one way valves, hoods, voicemitters, canteen caps that go to the mask, webbing, and an actual manual written in English.
