40M is nasty tonight. Way too much static. I had to reduce RF gain, play with AGC settings but nothing helped much. Some guys were weak but easy to read. Proper TX audio settings, audio compression and EQ can be as effective as an amplifier (especially the compression settings). I need to reorganize my shack to include a newly installed PC. The keyboard keeps bumping the VFO knob on the radio. I just locked the VFO at the end of the net.

Made a QSO with an arfcommer on 20 because neither of us could hear anyone else. If we walked on anyone you have our apologies. Noise floor on 40m dropping slightly there and I'll hang there for a while. No other action heard on 20m. Went back to 40 and will leave it on for a few minutes. ALL HANDS: I heard a number of relays. EXCELLENT!!!!!! |

Was sucked into a project and missed the net. Turned the radio on and am getting a S5/6 noise floor on 40, 20 seems to be a bit better but it seems like the noise floor has been crazy all day. I was trying to work my first Italian station today but he couldn't quite pull out my call. It was the first time that there wasn't a huge pileup that I was trying to break through. Guess it is time to upgrade the antenna.... |

Just a passing thought. When someone says "NC station" that can either refer to a station which may or may not be in North Carolina, or it may refer to a Net Control station. Can we call Net Control "NCS" to avoid that ambiguity? (or spell it out) |
