I have a Kaito Voyager. solar, crank, batteries or ac adaptor. Mines an older one, they now come with a USB port.

I'm a fan of the Reecom for home standby use... it's got decent sound, very long standby time on the battery backup for when the power goes out, will only respond to alerts you specify (no more 4am amber alert wakeups), and it correctly responds to the digital signalling so it also turns off at the end of a watch or warning statement.

If you're wanting something for portable use, don't have enough experience with any of those to help you.

+1 on the Reecom brand... as Gamma762 commented, it is a table unit, SAME programmable, and the warning is audible not text like my Midland... mine uses AA Eneloops and with the telescoping antenna could have some portability, though not a small unit... my NOAA station is about 45 miles line of sight and has good reception

Doesn't appear to have alerting.

If all you want to do is listen, any VHF scanner/receiver/transceiver, to include the GD-tastic Baofengs will receive weather radio.

If all you care about is weather alert and size.

The Midland RA36451 is the radio to have.

It's very, very small and light, and just does one thing really well. I can pretty much guarantee no other radio
posted on the thread will be smaller or lighter.
