I gotta chuckle just a little bit....
Just to prove that nothing new is really new we present "The 360 Buckhammer". A rimmed straightwall case firing 200 grain bullets at 2100 (yeah, advertised speeds are faster, but most woods rifles dont wear 24" test barrels). Thats a nice handy lever action rifle in a thumper cartridge... Its a 30-30 case, blown out and straight walled, firing a medium bore bullet...
Lets travel back to 1980'ish... Enter the Marlin 336 and Winchester 94AE in 375 Winchester.. Essentially a 30-30 case blown out and straight walled (the 38-55), but modernized. Factory 200 grain loads fired a 200 grainer at 2100, 2200. You could also get 220's at the time (since dropped my Hornady). I had a Marlin M375 in 375 Winchester. No lie, its a thumper. 300 yard gun? No. 200 yard gun? Not quite that either. And neither is the Buckhammer....
Or the 35 Remington (which is not, of course straight walled and therefore of no use to straightwall only states) which fired a 200 grain .358 at, you guess it, 2100-2200...
Or the 356 Winchester. This one isn't a fair comparison, since its not a blown out 30-30 case, but rather a 308Win case with an added rim. And its bottle neck. but you could launch a 200 grain .358 bullet to 2400, 2500 out of a lever gun....
No slam against the cartridge. No flames intended. But the firearms industry is running out of stuff to reinvent... 7.62 Luger/.30 Carry. 360 Buckhammer/375 Winchester. Any body else remember the whole Magnum craze of 20 years ago? Lets see, in addition to "regular" mag and Weatherby Mag, we had to add Win Short Mag. Win Super Short Mag, Rem Short Action Ultra Mag, Ruger Compact Mag, and and and...
