The 2017 version went well (for most of us, lol).  Let's see what we can do this year?  Instructions are simple....use an app to track your hikes throughout the year, then post a screenshot of the route and/or a picture of your hike.  Let's appreciate the nature around us and live vicariously through others.

1.  Track your hike through a gps app.  Lots of us in 2017 used the Samsung fitness app.  (see link below for examples)  (This is optional, you can just log your miles by adding up mile markers on the trails)
2.  Post screenshot of the route you took.
3.  Post a picture of the hike.
4.  Log your miles.  Example:

Miles hiked: 5.3.

Miles hiked to date: 52.5
5.  You can log your elevation gain as well, same as the log above.

Seems like a cool idea, but what I use to track my hikes (when I'm curious) is AllTrails, and I have security concerns about posting my hiking habits on a public forum.

Worried someone will find out you're an Austin hippy? I wouldn't want people to know that either.

Lots of different apps out there.  Alltrails is good.  I personally liked to use my native Samsung app, but if you don't have a Samsung, Alltrails is great.  Some folks like back country navigator too.  It's all really what you prefer in a UI. I like to see my path, my distance and elevation gains, and then take a photo to log it in so I'm reminded what each trail is like when I'm choosing my next hike.

Pardon my technological ignorance, but I do happen to have a Samsung Note 8.  What app am I looking for?

Will any of those apps work without cell service?

I believe so.  The ones I've used do.  Only thing you need is GPS service, which can get spotty sometimes depending on how deep you are.

There seems to be two threads with the same challenge.

Any way of maybe getting these bombines or narrowed down to one thread ?

Doh !!

Reading is fundamental.
Helps a lot when I actually look at the whole contents of a thread and post before posting myself.

I have only gone on 2 hikes this January. Too much ice. Bought some crampons this week. I’m gonna get a good hike in this weekend if I don’t have to work.

Just 100 miles? I'm in.
Update 1.
So far I am at a mere 74 miles
20 App. trail (Neels Gap-Unicoi Gap) in Apr.
9 more in various practice hikes and just knocked out 32 on the App. trail (Unicoi-Deep Gap, NC).
Going to have to head back out for at least a 39 miler this fall...
ETA;
Another 13 miles. Should have been 25 but one hiker down due to medical and a ripped in half hammock kept it down to 13. However the last 4 miles were at night, pitch black (no moon). From Deep Gap to Betty creek gap.
ETA;
Betty creek gap to NOC, 40 miles. That's it for this year, winter is here.
So yep, I made it. 114 miles, feels good.
ETA;
Another 5 miles today. Wanted to see how a few changes in a large Molle pack would work out. About 30 lbs loaded up, time was 1hr 43mn. The side cinch straps are a big improvement over the Alice which has none. Allows me to turn a giant blob of a pack into something a lot more streamlined.
YTD, 119 miles
ETA;
Another 7 miles today on a Myakka section of the Florida Trail. Further testing of the Molle pack set up. I need to some how lift the frame about an inch still. Anyway, 30lbs and overall worked well. Temps were in the mid 70s for all you yankees....
YTD, 126 miles

My son as been nursing some decent blisters.
Its taking a while to get his feet broken in.

He ordered some new boots and has been wearing them about a week now.

We tried them out on a hike around our yard area.
Figure since we still wore rucks it might count.

Little over 3miles.

Wasn't trying for time just seeing how his feet would hold up with some weight and distance.

Next one we go back to the state park.

I guess this will be my first official hike. Finished it immediately after the 5 mile hike. Was incredibly icy, was sliding 5+ ft at times coming down. There were also 3 bald eagles soaring overhead.

I've joined a local hiking group; they go our for 3 hikes a week, max of 2 hours over varied terrain, so I figure 5-6 miles each time.
Decided I was turning into a hermit and needed the group to kick my lazy ass into gear this year.
Hadn't heard of this thread but its an interesting challenge.

Went for another hike today. Unfortunately the cold got the best of my phone and shut it down for a while until I stuck it under my armpit. I have 2 tracks for the day and am missing 5-10 minutes of hiking. It's a nice regional park nearby. It'll be easy to adjust mileage up and down depending on weather and time available. I plan to do about 50 miles here then start carrying a pack and slowly start adding weight. Pretty happy with the pace, although I'd like to get it up to 4 mph. I'll update the distance the next time I'm out there and hike the same track.

2018 Total: TBD

First hike of 2018 for me. These are the two I did today, pretty nice day for a late winter hike in NW Ohio. Oak Openings in Swanton.

I forgot to enable the GPS on my Fitbit app before I got started, so just going off what All Trails says, I got 5.2 miles today.

I remembered to start the Fitbit today and ironically it said I got 5.2 miles again today. I went to the Castalia Quarry Preserve, part of Erie County Metroparks. Cool place.

10.4 miles total so far.

Did another 4 or 5 miles today with one of the groups I'm hiking with. Fourth hike this week, all about the same distances on different trails, so I'm about 20 miles for the week. I upgraded my All Trails to the paid version but I have no idea how to get it to track the miles soo I'll have to figure that out.....

Another 4 or so miles knocked out this afternoon, with the second group I've been going out with. in the snow. Gradient was all over the board and the surface was soft semi-compactable fresh snow, so I felt like I was running on the beach the whole time...

I also put another 5lbs in the pack for a total weight of 45lb. Hopefully all this will pay off if I shoot an elk in Oct.

This trail goes right by the parking lot at my church... convenient to grab some miles after service when it's nice. Its a long trail, but an easy one to do as little or as long as you want. Just a short one today as I have other things I need to do, but it's pretty and the sunshine was inviting. 2.3 miles today, 12.7 total.
