The 2017 version went well (for most of us, lol). Let's see what we can do this year? Instructions are simple....use an app to track your hikes throughout the year, then post a screenshot of the route and/or a picture of your hike. Let's appreciate the nature around us and live vicariously through others.
1. Track your hike through a gps app. Lots of us in 2017 used the Samsung fitness app. (see link below for examples) (This is optional, you can just log your miles by adding up mile markers on the trails) 2. Post screenshot of the route you took. 3. Post a picture of the hike. 4. Log your miles. Example: Miles hiked: 5.3. Miles hiked to date: 52.5 5. You can log your elevation gain as well, same as the log above. Link to 2017's thread with examples and app suggestions. |

I sucked a posting results last year, sorry. I'll just read this year.

Seems like a cool idea, but what I use to track my hikes (when I'm curious) is AllTrails, and I have security concerns about posting my hiking habits on a public forum.

Reading is fundamental. Helps a lot when I actually look at the whole contents of a thread and post before posting myself. |

Since I posted in the wrong thread, instead of posting everything over again, ( I'm Lazy )
Here's a link to my first two hikes. My Starting Point |

I have only gone on 2 hikes this January. Too much ice. Bought some crampons this week. I’m gonna get a good hike in this weekend if I don’t have to work.
Attached File Attached File 5.6 miles this year. I am not gonna keep track of elevation this year. |
|
I'm in. I've got one 70 mi trip planned so the rest should be easy
|

Just 100 miles? I'm in.
Update 1. So far I am at a mere 74 miles 20 App. trail (Neels Gap-Unicoi Gap) in Apr. 9 more in various practice hikes and just knocked out 32 on the App. trail (Unicoi-Deep Gap, NC). Going to have to head back out for at least a 39 miler this fall... ETA; Another 13 miles. Should have been 25 but one hiker down due to medical and a ripped in half hammock kept it down to 13. However the last 4 miles were at night, pitch black (no moon). From Deep Gap to Betty creek gap. ETA; Betty creek gap to NOC, 40 miles. That's it for this year, winter is here. So yep, I made it. 114 miles, feels good. ETA; Another 5 miles today. Wanted to see how a few changes in a large Molle pack would work out. About 30 lbs loaded up, time was 1hr 43mn. The side cinch straps are a big improvement over the Alice which has none. Allows me to turn a giant blob of a pack into something a lot more streamlined. YTD, 119 miles ETA; Another 7 miles today on a Myakka section of the Florida Trail. Further testing of the Molle pack set up. I need to some how lift the frame about an inch still. Anyway, 30lbs and overall worked well. Temps were in the mid 70s for all you yankees.... YTD, 126 miles |

My son as been nursing some decent blisters.
Its taking a while to get his feet broken in. He ordered some new boots and has been wearing them about a week now. We tried them out on a hike around our yard area. Figure since we still wore rucks it might count. Little over 3miles. Wasn't trying for time just seeing how his feet would hold up with some weight and distance. Next one we go back to the state park. Attached File |

Spent the day wandering around in the woods. Total of 5.79 mi.

Crap... I just did 5 miles. I’ll have to download an app to keep track of distance.

I've joined a local hiking group; they go our for 3 hikes a week, max of 2 hours over varied terrain, so I figure 5-6 miles each time.
Decided I was turning into a hermit and needed the group to kick my lazy ass into gear this year. Hadn't heard of this thread but its an interesting challenge. |
|
I'd like to take part. Downloading the All Trails app and hopefully I remember to turn it on/update. Cool thread

Not sure how to post pictures but took my dog on a 1.5 mile walk in the woods today.

Did another 4 or 5 miles today with one of the groups I'm hiking with. Fourth hike this week, all about the same distances on different trails, so I'm about 20 miles for the week. I upgraded my All Trails to the paid version but I have no idea how to get it to track the miles soo I'll have to figure that out.....

Crap haven't even been out in the woods yet this year. Going to try skiing tomorrow, but wish I had the time to do some winter camping/hiking.
|
|
Another 4 or so miles knocked out this afternoon, with the second group I've been going out with. in the snow. Gradient was all over the board and the surface was soft semi-compactable fresh snow, so I felt like I was running on the beach the whole time...
|
|
This was my hike today.
Attached File I also put another 5lbs in the pack for a total weight of 45lb. Hopefully all this will pay off if I shoot an elk in Oct. |
|
Did around four this morning, between some untouched snow and some portions that had been beaten down by skiers snowshoers and other hikers. Have decided that I hate walking in the deep untouched snow

2 miles today. Got to see a little snow storm move across the valley. Attached File

Another five miles in this afternoon. Moderate by comparison to some of the hikes we've been going on.

Yesterday was a 5.65 mike hike and gained 1685 feet of elevation. Went with a buddy and he didn’t have crampons and I did so we each used one. Made it doable but much harder. ETA total mileage this year is 14.79 miles |

Five or so yesterday. Getting ready to do another five this morning before an Easter gathering. I've lost count of my total for the year
