Cool thread. I got all inspired, found a few vids on cobra stitch, and did about 24" last night just to try it out. Only one blister.  Actually, the blister came up this morning, because I had leftover cord, so I started doing "double cobra" over the top of what I did yesterday. Also tried monkey knots –– that'll take a bit more practice.
Speaking of monkey knots, I did some web searching, and found .72 caliber lead balls at Cabela's –– $16.99/40. Might be a bit large for 550 cord. Anyone doing monkey knots know how large a ball you can fit inside one made with unstripped 550 cord, without having any gaps in your knot? Chrome steel balls are pretty cheap too. ETA: Nevermind; just figured out you can just do another row on the knot, to embiggen it. |

I used some of mine to tie a "Monkey's Fist" knot around a 3/4" steel ball bearing that my wife now has on her keychain
