[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Jericho - part III (Page 3 of 50)
|
I'm sorry, but if I see foreign soliders rolling down my Streets and they are not NATO or accompanied by US Troops (Armed and in Strength) I'm going to assume they are the enemy food drops or not. What no IEDs? No ambush farther up from the bridge? No Molotov Cocktails? Where are all the damn Assault Weapons? The town has a gun shop you mean to tell me there are zero assault weapons at a Ma and Pa gun store? What about camo? None of the farmers hunt? Come on. Now it is suppose to be a small and poor town so I understand that there may not be a ton of class III weapons, but I've seen some folks in here from all over the country with enough firepower to take on a BN worth of troops. Miniguns, 50 cals, SAWs, M60, and a whole host of other privately owned firepower that could bring the pain is in civilian hands. Why isn't Hawkins breaking out his ARs to help with the town's defense...what is he waiting for things to get worse? He could tell them they were weapons he purchased while he was FED or a Cop or what ever lie he is telling them this week. |
|
I asked around at work today about guns and ammo. I think Jericho had it about right for the mix of weapons. Most of the guys I work with hunt and that is it. They own a couple of bolt rifles or lever actions a shotgun maybe a .22. Some have other stuff but almost no one has an AR or an AK. Couple of SKSs. Most owned a pistol. Biggest thing I found was that most guys have almost no ammo. Couple boxes for each gun max. One of the guys with the SKS had 2 spam cans. Other one buys his ammo at Walmart. He said he will save me his brass from now on though!! Most guys dont like the idea of having a lot of ammo in the house. Not a scientific poll but it is my locality. I would worry more about the lack of ammo than them having an HDR. A force would have to be all volunteer and very few would have the right military training. There are only something like 26 million vets in this country and most of them probably never saw any combat or even had much tactics and weapons training. As for setting up the security force, I would start with the basics. I would break the force into 4 teams. One mans the checkpoints, one provides a roving patrol, one is a reaction force and one is off. Rotate every couple of days. Checkpoints, reaction force, roving patrols, off. The reaction force can be home but they must meet within 10 minutes at the command center when the church bell rings. or something like that. I would train all the teams in basic small unit tactics. Jake has the ranger handbook but I have "Yank" Levy's Guerilla Warfare that my grandfather had during WWII:) There are plenty of manuals online also. Hopefully there are some people in town who can train folks. Also teach basic weapons skills. A lot of dry firing etc. I would let them use their own weapons as hopefully they are at least familiar with their own weapons. Although if you have every gone to a sight in day at a club it is scary. I would try to group the teams together by locality to make transportation and response easier. As for common weapons I would try for common cals. I dont care if your rifle is a Garand, Savage or Remington as long as it is 30-06 for example. Have a couple of guys at least trained in basic first aid. Set up commmunications. All the checkpoints and rovers have radios that report to the CP. No radios try flares, pigeons, runners or land lines. Have codes and passwords. Do I think that my group could survive an attack by Ravenwood? Doubt it but it would be a realistic start. As for convincing a town that it is necessary you probably could not until something bad happens. Human nature is reactive and not proactive. You might be able to start something right after a disaster with your neighbors like in NO but I dont see a town doing that until some folks get killed. All of the above is based on my own thoughts and very limited exposure to small unit tactics. Not a lot of that in my service. |
Agreed. And what's with people posting questions that have already been answered in this thread? Please read through the posts before hand! |
|
Well yes, by standardize I mean grouping themy by common caliber/type of weapon. Hoever I'd try to get the same mix in each unit so each has the same level of ability, 2 scoped bolt action, 3 shotguns and a semi auto battle rifle. Hopefully that would just be two calibers to stock per squad. If you had a smaller 4 man group I'd ditch the shotguns all together and go all rifles if possible. 7 Roads, 4 man checkpoint, 3 shifts, that at a minimum 84 men just for checkpoint duty. You would want more to give folks a day or two off, plus more for a reaction force and patrols outside of town. I'd like to have 6 man check points, but that further pushes up the number of men you need. You'd need a minimum of 150 to 200 men including support personnel. We havent even considered outlying OP's or OP's along the perimeter of the town off the main roads. I think marksmanship and tactics would be the primary training concerns. PT to a limited degree (you need folks now, not in six or eight weeks when they are in better shape...food shortages will help with that anyway) |
|
How about going out to the next cross roads, put up an unmanned "road block" with a sign warning of radiation in Jericho (to deter refugees) and that the town burn to the ground (to deter looters). Direct random travelers somewhere else. If all goes well, the "checkpoints" closer to town will never need to stop anyone. |
Sheriff is dead |
I was thinking they cleaned out the gun store/Walmart spinning cabinet. |
I believe that Episode 9 aired on the 15 Nov 06. Two more episodes are left before the CBS three month break. Episode 12 is tentatively scheduled for the last week of Feb 07. |
I hate it when they do that. Same going on with "Lost". Great way to lose veiwers. |
I hope you're printing those out now. I know I should. |
too truebut I will still continue to watch ![]() ETA: was anybody else PISSED that Jake referred to the Ravenwood guys as dropouts and thugs? I mean, these characters are not good people, but in reality their being thugs and dropouts is so far off the mark....
|
wOOt! That's exactly what I was asking about on page 4. Also notice the mag-fed rifle that is sans mag. |
They mentioned Post Tramatic Stress in Countdown 9. So yeah, they might be setting us up for that. On the other hand, they might have justed wanted to set up another love triangle between Jake, gimpy, and blondie. |
ravenwood is not that bad. they could have killed the farmer when taking his gas, they could have killed everyone on the bridge during the first confrontation but called ceasefire and when asked about the hospital they did respond that it was a messed up few weeks. for all they know the one "lone" raven wood guy could have been the crazy one and fighting the others. but on the other hand they should be helping but are "collecting" supplies yea what gun did hawkins snipe that one guy with? and were are the rest of hawkin's guns I am starting to think less and less that jake was SF |
His brother needs to GET BOTH also - bartender and the doc! |

The introduction of the Chinese into next week's episode is a big deal. I've always thought that the entire series was some sort of psyops (like most of the stuff on TV), but the Chinese stuff confirmed it for me. Both of the major parties (or more accurately, both flavors of the single ruling party) in this country are in bed big time with China. The media in this country is also substantially (not 100% yet) under the control of the ruling elites/NWO/etc.... They aren't going to allow anything that makes China look bad on network TV. The last thing the New World Order wants is the American people to wake up and 1) start preparing for SHTF, and 2) stop buying Chinese crap. So I predict that China will probably turn out to be the good guy. Having said all that, it's possible that the white hats in gov't/media have managed to sneak Jericho under the radar screen, and China will turn out to be the bad guy. If that happens, expect to see this show cancelled before next season. |
|
Remember also the only real news that's been shown was the Chinese broadcast (propaganda?) they picked up on satellite at the bar in the beginning. Now we have Chinese supplies dropping from the sky, which wouldn't be so alarming if those "Do not fight back" notes weren't attached to them. I don't think China will be the good guy. They've already slammed contractors as "Army drops outs and thugs", why wouldn't they slam China as the evil empire coming to take over America. One thing I think they did make a concession on is the possibility of having the town set up IEDs to take out Ravenwood. To show the good guys using IEDs to take out US government contractors would not sit well with the "one man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter" crowd. |

You know, I was just watching episode five over... Turns out Hawkins was working on his computer... Dunno if you recall he pulled up a passport that was flagged. Also dont know if anyone noticed, it was Jacob Greens (Jake).... On a Department of State website at that. Then remember when Hawkins son asked if they could go to the movies, and then also asked why his daddy was working outside. Hawkins reply was He had to fix something... Im thinking he ment the Flag on Jacob Greens passport. In that episode, he also told his wife he wasnt sure how much longer he would be there... So what ever he had to teach his daughter he had to teach her now... |
no problem! only problem is i think i look like Jake.. and i always have people tell me "you look just like ___" and, hell, chiz45 thinks i look like one of "The Wiggles" which i did NOT find verry flattering, however true that might be.
|
Both plausible explanations. Maybe the producers/directors didn't drop the ball. |
I was thinking the same thing, JWM. FWIW- Whenever I stumble across information that is interesting or useful on-line, I print it right away and just keep stacking the hard copies into an old paper box. This takes almost no effort and the pages can be organized anytime off-line even by candlelight if need be |
Because they want the world gray, we must all get along to get along. ![]() The sickening propaganda media machine - they need some gaspipe, ![]()

I setup and ran several bridge scenarios in TACOPS. Due to limitations in the program, I had to make a few assumptions: 1. Townspeople all had AK74's with 120rds ammo each 2. Townspeople were trained(knew how to use their weapons) and were disciplined(would fight not run away or hide). These assumptions are fairly optimistic, but they're what I had to work with. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I set up two scenarios with the first bridge encounter: #1. 20 Townspeople behind cover on the bridge, with 2 Hummers and 4 Ravenwood mercs with M16's attacking. As in the TV show, the townspeople give the Ravenwood mercs time to close in and dismount from their vehicles. #2. Just as above, but the Townspeople open fire at the first opportunity, not letting the Ravenwood mercs get close and dismount. In both of these scenarios, victory goes to the townspeople. If the townspeople had the balls to fight and knew how to use their weapons, the 4 Ravenwood mercs would be dead. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I set up four scenarios(#3-6) with the second bridge encounter: #3. 50 townspeople behind cover on the bridge, with an attacking force of 2 Hummers, 2 Trucks, and 30 Ravenwood mercs with M16's (also some M203s and SAWs). As in the TV show, the townspeople give the Ravenwood mercs time to close in and dismount from their vehicles. #4. 50 townspeople behind cover on the bridge, with an attacking force of 2 Hummers, 2 Trucks, and 30 Ravenwood mercs with M16's (also some M203s and SAWs). The Townspeople open fire at the first opportunity, not letting the Ravenwood mercs get close and dismount. #5. The townspeople get smart, and use some tactics. In addition to the 50 people on the bridge, the townspeople deploy 2 sniper teams on the town side of the river. They also deploy 1 remotely detonated car bomb inside one of the disabled cars on the road (100m blast radius). As in the TV show, the townspeople give the Ravenwood mercs time to close in and dismount from their vehicles. #6. The townspeople get smarter, and create an L-ambush. Same attacking force. 20 townspeople on the bridge, and 2 sniper teams on the town side of the river. 1 remotely detonated car bomb inside one of the disabled cars on the road (100m blast radius). Multiple fighting positions 200-300 meters parallel to the road approaching the bridge...with 30 townspeople manning these fighting positions. As in the TV show, the townspeople give the Ravenwood mercs time to close in and dismount from their vehicles. Ravenwood wins the #3 scenario with light casualties. Letting the Mercs get in close and deploy with the #3 defense is a losing tactic. The townspeople win the #4 scenario with 9 casualties. The defense works a lot better if they shoot up the mercs while the mercs are still mounted and at a distance. The townspeople win the #5 and 6 scenarios with light casualties. The mercs never stand a chance in the #6 scenario. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I'm sure skirmishing snipers and fall back postions would have helped, but they may not have even been necissary. I also would think that the townspeople would greatly benefit from smoke grenades, in case they had to retreat, belt fed guns, or .50 cals. |
He's waiting to pick up a redhead! |
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jericho_%28TV_Series%29#Web-based_tie-ins Carol Barbee, in an online interview, announced that there would be a "digital connection" to Jericho through an online companion (at Jericho's official site) called Beyond Jericho. The television program gave the web address for the online companion. Beyond Jericho was to feature the "other survivors" of the nuclear attacks. According to Barbee, the story was intended to be unique to the site, but as the season of Jericho progressed, the online story would dovetail into the episodes themselves. Although, the site and "webisode" have since has disappeared from the CBS website before the second episode of the TV show was broadcast. Now everything concerning the "other survivors" story, including the site itself is unavailable. However, according to a report on the Hollywood North Report, the Writers Guild of America is apparently petitioning its members to refuse to work on "webisode" projects due to a dispute between the WGA and many studios and networks regarding payments and royalties for such projects. In one specific case, NBC Universal has filed a counter-grievance against the WGA with the National Labor Relations Board, arguing that webisodes are already covered under current guild contract. Although a settlement was reached between NBC Universal and the WGA - part of which included blocking viewers outside the United States from viewing the webisodes - there are reports that other webisode projects are either on hold or outright cancelled out of fears of further disputes and potential strikes by the WGA and other industry collective bargaining representative organizations. CBS has since decided to scrap the current webisode storyline and instead release a new series of "prequel" webisodes named "Countdown" that take place before the first explosion. Each of these new webisodes will appear weekly and show Robert Hawkins gathering information before the attack. While the webisodes coinciding with TV episodes 1-5 will hopefully be released on the site eventually, they have yet to appear. |
Watch and see if the Ravenwood force doesn't get aceepted into the group to fight off the invaders, Chinese or whoever they are. Kind of like the two dogs that fight tooth and nail but fight together against the "outsider" dog. |
Thank You! He looked very familiar but I couldn't place him. He was "Dish" in Lonesome Dove. |
Perhaps you recognize him from "The Cutting Edge"....Toe-pick! Thanks to my wife for reminding me of that. ![]() World's Gayest Movie. Edit for link. |
he was Mike Pinnochio in "Harsh Realm" ... still looks like Tom Green with that goat!
|
But they don't know. All they know is what the dude told them in the hospital. The doctor they rescued doesn't appear to be all that talkitive. Thats what makes things so dicey. What if there are 150-200 mercs camped up at Rouge River's wally world parking lot? That would be a force much much harder to defend against than the 30 or so we saw. Still they should have wasted them, hidden evidence of them ever being there and taken their gear. |
Keep in mind thats its a heart still a tv show. But you are still learning from it whether you hardheads want to or not (even if it serves mothing more than to make you mentally re-inforce things you already know). Sheesh.
too true
