If you're maxing out at 800, then you probably won't need all the additional travel very likely and since you're going for precision, the extra mag in the 6-24x50 would be great to have.
**Edit** - Forgot you're shooting a .223 - you actually might want to go with the 4-16x44 for that extra travel. 16x is still plenty at those distances. You won't be seeing holes in paper, but you'll absolutely have more than enough power for steel targets.
