I scanned this article from my research collection.
This post consists of the cover image and 3-page article from the June 1959 issue of Guns & Ammo magazine. The beginning of the article states:
"This is one of the first public announcements of Armalite's new AR-15."
At the time that this article was published, Eugene Stoner, the inventor of the AR-15 rifle, was the Chief Engineer at Armalite.
The design and operating system of the rifle was truly revolutionary. Many people think that Colt designed the AR-15 which they did not.
Colt bought the rights and the patents to the AR-15 design from Armalite this same year.
What nobody predicted was the uphill battle that layed ahead for the AR-15 rifle to be accepted as the United States primary service rifle and to become type classified as the XM16/M-16 in the years ahead.
To learn more about the incredible history of the AR-15/M-16 I recommend reading "The M16 Controversies" by Thomas L. McNaugher.
