I used an AR15 armorer's tool that had the correctly sized diameter wrench slot, luckily enough. The Geissele AR10 reaction rod is pricey but it will save you from damaging your upper receiver and/or your barrel indexing pin. I myself have taken the barrel off several times on two different AR901s, so for me it was an investment. I am currently running a SiCo ASR muzzle brake on my main 901, although I still dont have the suppressor yet. I hope this helps. |
| I've got the LE901SE model and I'm liking it slick except that the forend gets pretty hot. Does anyone make some kind of cover for the bare portion of the fore end or am I going to have to attach all the rails and use standard rail covers? |

Out of curiosity, has anyone tried an X-25 drum magazine in the 901? Did it work?
Manufacturer says it should work, but one Brownell's review says it doesn't. I kind of want to have one for shits and giggles. |

So far I've seen the slash heavy buffer and the jp captured spring could be heavy by swapping out a tungsten ring. I bought two of these in the past month and Jesus have I had a hard time getting the first one where I want it with all the proprietary parts. Picked up a Marc 901SE today.
My AR901 is ridiculously over gassed with a suppressor, so I've been looking at the jp captured spring as an option. |

Well, I ordered the 901-16SE M.A.R.C. from arms unlimited about two weeks ago after getting an in stock notice. As it turns out, what I picked up was a Mexican export marked lower with the older 4 rail 16s upper. I hadn't actually inspected the gun before posting, I just glanced at it when I picked it up, and thought it had the rail sections already installed. Box tag says LE 901-16SM.
I've emailed them to see what they actually meant to sell as the description never mentioned any of that and if I can't get the Marc model to get a return. My search for the Marc model may continue, or I might say eff it, and get a sig or dpms gen 2. The first one, AR901, I got off gun broker. |

Goddamnit, at least you got what you paid for. basically they said I can keep it or return it, no 901marc to replace it with. Mexican export lower has some dings, and upper is perfect, just not the Marc model I wanted.
deciding on sending it back next day or so, they said i lucked out with a "collectors piece" not sure I believe that, and I bought it to shoot. |

They pulled it off the website everywhere except the military division ck901. If it were me I’d stuff that thing in the safe and sit on it. Those 6920 colts with the Mexican markings were snapped up pretty quick and fetch a premium now due to the uniqueness of the item. |

wow I havent checked my own 901 thread for years, I had no idea how long it has gotten, stopped coming in the colt forum since it seems to have been over run with the kinda posters that made me leave the AR discussion sections

Given how rarely parts come back in stock for the 901 it probably is a good idea to have spares anyway though. |

Yeah, I am very particular, and I like my AR901 (except for the missing ambi controls!), but just couldn't handle the 16S upper. I just want a MARC. Arms Unlimited was cool about it, prepaid label etc. so no complaints there, but my search continues. I have an MBT trigger, a Razor and an Omega in jail and all the other parts waiting on the next 901 I try to buy. Pro-tip (not sure if I mentioned this before): The gas key screw spacing is shorter on the 901, so no adjustable gas keys fit. Sad. I was hoping that'd be an easy fix for over-gassing. I've got a new adjustable gasblock to get installed on the gun below. Not sure what to do about the MARC though. Maybe convert the front sight block to DIY adjustable. Obligatory pic:

Odd, I read somewhere that colt was working on releasing an updated 901 sometime 2018 So I don’t really know what to believe. I tend to lean towards the reps I spoke with though. There’s really no reason to yank it off of the website unless they plan on killing the line. They keep it on the military side due to contracts they are trying to score |

I also shot mine with a Saker. Definitely overgassed. Had to put on an adjustable gas block. I used a micro MOA govnah.
Prior setup was stock buffer and spnico orange spring. Overgassed, uncomfortable to shoot. Ended up with Micro MOA govnah. suppressed port size around 0.055. Where the factory port size is 0.072. Stock buffer, changed spring to tubbs flatwire. Works great now. If you change the gas block, you will need an armalight carbine gas tube. The stock colt gas tube only works with colt FSB. Unsure of what the Colt low profile gas block and tubes look like. |

Thanks for the responses and suggestions. Followup questions: Is there a guide on removing the handguards given the monolithic upper and barrel nut setup ? Its been awhile but I recall reading something about needing a custom tool to hold and remove the barrel nut, or send it off to Adco or a similar service to get the hard work done.
ETA: Just found the reference to Arrington Accuracy Works back on page 42 about the custom 901 barrel nut wrench, but after googling him it appears his website is no longer operational. |

I have the 901 MARC. Thanks for the clarification, I'm overthinking the problem and solution. Not having much experience in doing it myself due to lack of experience is a bit intimidating. I know I can remove the lower handguard via removal of the screw, but how about the upper handguard ? I 'd love to keep the folding sight assembly but thats a nonstarter now. |

The lower rail should be like the 901 LE. Remove the screws. On the bottom rail, close to the receiver should be a hole and tab to push. Push the tab down (up towards the barrel) and push the lower rail forward. Assuming the MARC is like the LE rail. You will not be able to remove the sides and top rail. Those are integrated with the upper receiver. The only option I can think of if you wanted to keep the FSB would be see if Clint at Black River tactical could tap and custom insert the FSB. I don't know if he does or would do that. The downside is you have to figure out what port size you want and is not very easily adjustable. http://www.blackrivertactical.com/concrete5/customtune-gas-port/ The FSB sight is at a weird height with the rail. The rear sight is a Troy medium height sight. Troy will not sell an individual medium height front sight. I have been too cheap to buy a whole set of troy medium height BUIS. I have read in other forums people have problems sighting in standard height BUIS due to the rail height. Maybe someone else has found an alternative, hoping so. |
