The Knights tool is stepped, since it also works for the SR15 and it's E3 barrel extension and the Colt 901 has a shorter bolt path upper than a SR25/AR10, the smaller diameter part of the shaft has to be shimmed to stabilize in the 901 upper. A 30mm to 1 inch scope ring reducer works perfectly. It will make sense if you try one but the only reason to do so is if you also have an SR15.
I originally wrapped the smaller part (AR15 bolt carrier diameter) of the rod with electrical tape to stabilize it in the upper. The scope ring reducers work better. If you don't also have a Knights SR-15 you'll probably be better off getting the Brownells tool for the AR-10. |

So the aftermarket FH on my 901 was stuck so bad I'd have to buy that $200 reaction rod for sure. Couldn't get it off. When looking at other options, I found ADCO will do the swap for $10 + return shipping on the upper, and people here seem to love them, so...
It's on the way back already. $51 total spent for a professional swap. I can totally live with that since I'm not planning on changing the muzzle device again in the near future. I'll budget for the Reaction Rod for my kit later. 
The hunt for LE901-16SE rail screws continues though. Can't seem to locate a source to save my life. Looks like Brownells used to sell them, but they no longer do. |

If they put me in charge, they would be market leaders again within months. if you saw their manufacturing and materials procurement process, not to mention the spiderweb of where their time and money goes, you would change your mind and make someone like Anderson Manufacturing the market leader. For companies like Colt, it costs them more money to increase production because of the strict processes they have been forced to adhere to in order to take large contracts from the government. Lean manufacturing sometimes paints you in a corner as well. Also lots of dark industry secrets in those "big name" companies that would just plain piss you off. That's all I have to say and I will end it there. |

A 20" upper with a rifle gas system and the existing mid-length would suddenly make the 901 a good deal more interesting. Not that it isn't already awesome, but that would add long-range .308 shooting to its roster of skills. |

I picked up a 901 lower from ArmsUnlimited.com
It is the AR-901 w/o ambi bolt/mag release. If you were on the pre-order a few months ago I believe you would get the LE901 lower that has the ambi controls. Unfortunately I grew impatient as they never got the lowers in and cancelled the order. |

I did a little research and think they are the medium height Troy sights. I have some of the standard height sights and they are taller than the Colt 901 rear sight. I e-mailed Troy about purchasing a medium height front sight individually from them. They said they only sell those in sets.

| I run a trijicon accupower 3-9 on mine. I had my vcog on it for a little bit before while I was finishing a 556 build. I am contemplating getting a 1-8 accupower for it. The accupoint 1-6 is also another one I've thought about because it would keep the weight down and I love the accupoints. |
| I know khales has great glass but for me I like Trijicon stuff. Their glass is great, and for my eyes their reticles are the best for me. My 901 is what I bought after a 275 LB sow laughed at me after putting 6 223 rounds in her from 20 yds away, so I need something that draws my eye for quick shooting. |

Does anyone have a list of AR-15/M4 parts that are common to the LE901???
Thanks! Also, I have asked Colt several times to produce a A2 stocked LE901 with a 18" or 20" barrel. FYI- Brownell's has a large back order of Colt LE901 parts. Colt CS says that hey won't start producing LE901's until late summer. They are taking back orders for Colt LE901 parts. |
| I need a some guidance on the FH removal; I'm replacing it with a mount for either a Sico ASR FH for a Saker or a Griffin mount for a 30 SD. I've scanned the previous pages and didn't find an answer to removing the Vortex. Will putting the separated upper / barrel with vice blocks in a vice stabilize the upper enough so I don't over torque the barrel nut when removing the FH ? Do I need to use heat to loosen any thread locker ?I tried magpul BEV block but it wouldn't fit. Any suggestions appreciated. |
