I got a RRA Elite Comp....they had one left in Memphis at Guns and Ammo and I was able to snag it with a deposit until i could sneak up there and get it. There certainly were not any advertised anywhere on the net that I could find....anyone who had an ad were waiting for shipments. I actually found mine when i called to inquire about their transfer fees...they had one in the back! This is my first AR and i am so stoked! I'll figure out a way to tell my wife later, right? 
If you are interested in one of these, I know Guns and Ammo got some more RRA's in...maybe something you are loking for came in? They have no web presence, but are a large store and probably Memphis's most known gun store. It couldn't hurt to call them. I know they do transfers cause I thought thats what I was gonna do to get the one I wanted....i.e., buy a gun off Gun Broker and have it transferd to them if I could find one. They are at (901) 324-8346. Ask for James, as he is their resident AR15 guru. If you feel like it, tell them that Billy, the guy who just bought their Elite Comp sent you...it might get me some leverage on an HK compact pistol I wanna get for my wife this Christmas if I can swing it. I can tell you this, that place was PACKED!  They were out of ammo, mags, etc...there must have been 50 people in there and it's not that big of a place.

Started as a stripped RRA lower and a factory complete RRA Varmint A4 Upper.
Specs as she stands: RRA Upper and Lower 18" Varmint A4 Bull Barrel with midlength gas system Troy 10" MRF Rails Troy Irons front and rear ADM Recon Mount Magpul PRS Stock & MOE Grip Falcon Optics 4-14 FFP MilRad PRI Low Pro Gas Block YHM Phantom Flash Suppressor and QD Suppressor Mount (waiting on form 4 for can since August) Harris 6-9 BRMS with ARMS QD Mount As far as the build, only components which required "modding" were threading the barrel for the suppressor QD, machining the gas block open a couple of hundreths to fit over the step-up on the varmint barrel (.936 is not quite enough), and machining a barrel nut to a sufficient diameter to clear the varmint barrel. By "machining", I mean slow and steady with a cordless drill, dremel, grinding drum and a touch of apprehension (that PRI block runs around $60) - before finishing them up with a little lapping compound and fine sandpaper drum. I did bugger up one barrel nut in the process, but they're cheap... 
And my only two other AR's. Top is a carbine built on a RRA stripped lower with a factory RRA upper (added the surefire rails/light, Dominator EOtech mount, TD foregrip, Redimag, PRI Big Latch, VLTOR Stock and single point sling adapter). Bottom is a factory RRA Standard CAR A4 on which I added the A2 stock, ACOG and Badger Tac Latch. I also happened upon a RRA stripped lower on the shelf at a local fun shop this week, so it'll be built up as another M4 for my son's Christmas present, soon...

RRA entry tac, burris ff II 3x9 mounted via RRA one piece scope mount, cheap 3 watt LED flashlight held on by inserting light clip into a small opening in the front of handgaurd and my ex-girlfriends hair tie on the tail cap., custom little critter and dusties keeper outter on the muzze. need to get a buis next.

What? You didn't go with the pink hairband? Actually I do like simple ways to take care of things. I would like to hear about your scope setup. Do you like the burris? Any issues with seeing the front sight at 3x vs 9x? How's the hi-rise mount? Is it heavy? Seems like you have it mounted forward of the rail a bit, any issues there? Looks like doing so gave you enough eye relief. I still need to size up how far forward I'll need my scope mounted. I was hoping to get away with rings only, but figured a one piece would probably be necessary. Don't mean to hit you with the 20 questions, but it's rare to see a rifle here with the setup you have, and that is exactly what I'm looking for (minus the uber-tactical illuminator retention device). Thanks. |

Thanks. I'd be glad to answer your questions! been waiting for someone to comment on my tactical hair band.. haha. i can't see the front sight at all, at either 3 or 9x. The hi-rise RRA one piece scope mount is about the same weight as the tactical carry handle it replaced. i decided to mount the scope the farthest forward i could in the rings and also the mount the farthest forward it could. there's this little notch thing in the middle of the mount that fits into the little pictanny thingies. I figured that was the most important part of keeping the mount stable. Therefore the rear thumb screw clamping section is covering the whole rail, but the front only about 1/4 inch of the rail. I think thats enough though because like i said earlier the litle notch thing in the middle should stabalize it and even though the front is not clamping down on the rail with it's complete length it still is clamping down on it. I zeroed it at 100 yards 2 weeks ago, and then just went out to shoot last night. it has held it's zero. Still can't really shoot Nose To Charging Handle, but my nose is probably 2.5 inches from the charging handle to get proper eye relief. that's good enough for me. i just bring the rifle up to my eye, instead of bringing my head and eye down to the rifle. i watched that technique in a video i saw on here, about being able to control the recoil easier this way. about the Burris. it's an excellent scope. the glass is so clear and even works good at night with just the illumination from the headlights of my truck, i was shooting out to 100 yards at night. i'll get some close up pics of what i'm talkin about on the mounting the mount part. |

Thanks a lot for the response even with pics, wow. That's what I was looking to hear/see. I haven't mounted it yet but have checked out the Burris scope in the dark with just neighborhood lighting and could still see things pretty decent. Nice to hear you can't see the front sight at all, this was probably my biggest concern. This will probably be mounted on a DPMS 308 for now, then a RRA 308 once it shows up, so I should have even more room on the rail to work with. But looks like you're getting away with enough eye relief. It's more practical for my needs anyhow but I really like the look of that rifle/mount/scope setup. I think your food particle grew during the photo op, and you should check again to see if there's a potato growing in there. Zombie hair or not, good pics and good info. Having spent now 8 months in country with more missions than I can count, I feel qualified to answer this question based on my experience here in Iraq. Now the statement below (which I wrote for a different post) is as it applies to Iraq, but I don't plan on changing anything to my personal AR when I get back, except perhaps to a Dissipator or Mid-Length upper receiver instead of the M4 profile I have now. The M4 rail is too short for me to have a bipod mounted on it, with foregrip and flashlight at the 3 o'clock position, so that is why I will probably switch upon my return to the good ole' U.S.A. YMMV "Having a 3x9 power scope on my M4 was a must. It allowed me to search for IEDs from a distance, monitor possible threats from the civilian population before they came within AK47 range (200m), and helped with positive threat/non-threat identification. The 3x9 power mil-dot I used allowed for close range hits with the 3x-power setting, and long range (300m +) precision shooting with the 9x-power setting. Contrary to perception, you CAN engage close range targets quickly and accurately with your scope. Red-Dots (M68) are fine, but don’t allow for magnification needed for P.I.D. at longer ranges. Also dots would fade in bright sunlight on white targets (such as Iraqis wearing white “man dresses.â€) Rock River Arms “1-inch Hi Rise with Rings†allowed for quick detach/attach for the scope. Army issued BUIS (Back Up Iron Sight) fits on M4/M16 flat top rails with RRA scope mount." The scope I use is a Bushnell 3x9 mil-dot (Trophy?). About $100 from Riflescopes.com Would prefer a Leupold though if money isn't an option. F.A.S. Out (and still in the Sandbox)>> |

Well if it doesn't work for me, I'll blame you Kaz. I just ordered that RRA mount. I called RRA and got through the phones after several tries. I figured "great, now that I know what I want, I won't be able to get it anywhere." Well ends up they actually had the 1 inch mount in stock. I've been looking at this site forever and till then, haven't seen what I needed.

Hogue grip ARMS 40 BUIS Midwest Industries quad rail and QD sling swivel KAC rail covers UTG Folding VFG Pelican M6 light with tape switch and mount EOTech HWS Spec-Ops Mamba sling (took it from my M4 I used during OIF) Nothing too fancy on this, works great as a patrol rifle. Shoots like a dream. Worth every penny.

Here is an update...
My 16" M4 RRA is actually broken down and the barrel is at ADCO getting turned down from HBAR profile to Govt. profile. It also go a 512 finally. 
Here is AR#2... RRA stripped lower RRA LPK w/ 2 stage trigger Bushy 20" M16A2 barrel Bushy A2 stock CMT flattop upper CMT charging handle Bushy carry handle (from the EE)

I got my RRA upper a month ago. It's been to the range three times and shoots great.

This one started life as the AR15.com 2001 Limited Edition Group Purchase so the lower has the old address and does not have the new RRA logo. The upper is a 2008 manufactured RRA lightweight middy with a RRA carry handle. Toss in a few Magpul goodies and it's just about the perfect carbine for me.
