I can see the flaw and what I think is causing the wobble.
The dia of cylinder shaft is undersized or the hole for it is oversized. If it is like this brand new, I would think with use it will get worse. I am comparing the wobble to a sig a SB and a Stormwerks and those are SOLID when open. Zero movement. Some customers may say no problem but likely do not have something to compare it to. I know @conda does not like wobble as apparent in some of his reviews. I need more than one of these but will not be buying more till the wobble is addressed OR the price is drastically reduced to reflect what you get. Congrats to B5 for making a very nice stock but whoever made the folding assy gets a WTF. |

Does it flop around when folded closed?
I have a Mage folding stock, which is great when locked open. However there is nothing to lock it when folded and it just flops around. Not perfect for stowing or moving around. Could care less about shooting folded as I'm not the Terminator. Like the look on this stock, but sounds like the folder is rubbish. Should have gone with Midwest Industries for the folder. |

It locks closed with slight wobble. The folding assy is specifically made for this stock and the BRN-180 as you can see right away with the contours and lines match this specific setup. Off the shelf units would have a less than desired look. The look of the folding assy is outstanding but they failed on the solid feel needed. I do not know who made the folding assy. B5 made the stock and it is very nice. All the folding assy by current makers lock up solid so the company that made these is lacking in that area. I would guess they are just a machine shop following prints that have design errors. One person in the GD thread claims he is sending his back for a refund right away. So I am not the only one that has issues with it. |

I passed the concerns from both threads (specifically yours and the other poster's that mentioned he was sending back right away) back to the Product Team. We're going to monitor return rates and speak w/ the manufacturer about making it lock up more securely. I also asked if there was a way for the manufacturer to machine the screws to where the middle section of the screw shank is just a blank cylinder to reduce marring.
Thanks for the feedback. Remember: it's a Brownell's product, so it does have the Guaranteed Forever warranty. Guaranteed Forever Warranty |

It pains me, but mine is going in the mail today for a REFUND.
Such a long wait for this to end up this way. I do not want to have it on hand and be tempted to fix it myself and void the ability to send it back. And if they are tracking the returns to determine if they will correct the issue, it needs to be returned. |

Alright I got mine in. My two cents-
Job well done Brownells. The stock is nice all around except for a key area. But the quality of components, and finish are exceptional. There's practically zero machining marks, mold marks, ejection marks, knit lines or other defects, it really does match the quality of a BRN-180 upper and lower. I personally appreciate the finish, look, and feel most, it's spot on. It's lightweight, thin, low profile in width, and nicely made. It's also very easy to use, and folds, and locks when folded. If there wasn't the one drawback below, I would be happy with it. When the stock is extended and locked, there is play. It's not bad by any means-most AR stocks have play on the buffer tube. A good amount of folding stocks have play when locked as well. But, for the price of the stock, it needs a solid lock up when extended, with minimal play. I suspect its because the upper tab (on the stock) has to fit into a key slot (in the mounting bracket) when the stock folds in and locks-there has to be play so the parts fit together. Also, I see some cylindrical clearance on the hinge mechanism that is causing some of the play too. I think a few GD&T adjustments can fix most of the play. I assume you're using CNC machines for this-I think you could adjust the limit tolerance range to be smaller. You'll probably have a higher scrap rate and higher machine time per finished part, but I think it would be a net positive for the design. Also, why is the height of the mounting hinge shorter than the length of pic rail on the BRN-180 retro receiver? I could understand if the height is based upon different requirements, but as a customer who has a BRN-180 receiver and a BRN-180 stock, it would be great if the height matched in Z. Just a looks thing. I installed the stock and took it off a few times and I didn't see any marks on my receiver at all. My Manticore arms stock uses the Midwest Industries folding stock mount which has exposed screw threads just like this design and doesn't leave marks either. Why doesn't the stock have a hinged buttplate like the original stock? It would be nice to have some storage space. The one from Manticore Arms has this incorporated, although it is much wider and the storage space is immense. That said, even if there was a hinged buttplate, clearly there isn't much internal space to store much, but when I roleplay in Mom's basement it would be nice to open the stock and have some emergency skittles. |

View Quote Hinged buttplate? The AR-180 does not have one. The AR-180B has one. So it is true to the original AR-180. I agree that with just a few changes to some of the measurements of the design and this thing should lock up solid. They need to makes changes to BOTH open and close as BOTH have wobble. Close or folded is less important but should be corrected as best as possible. @knightzone did you intend to return? It may be the best option to draw attention to corrections needed if they see RETURNS. I also agree if this were a $100 item, wobble would be fair, but not at over $200 shipped for me using a coupon. |

Ah! I stand corrected. Its a cool feature! Yea I'm going to return. I'm happy with it overall but I really would like the lockup to be better, especially if I bought a DMR version. Since I have the Manticore Arms one, and the ACR stock combo, I will still have a stock for mine. I've spent a lot of money on stocks for this gun ETA:Kudos to Brownells for addressing the feedback. You know BETA testing would be a good idea on these BRN-180 products.
There are maybe 5 hardcore BRN-180 users around the site. Send them the(a) product with a option to buy with all reviews direct to Brownells only. Might save some money and time on Brownells end. |

For those of you that have clamping to 1913 lower problems.....
You do have an easy way to determine if your lower rail is out of spec right in front of you. Just try and clamp it on the upper rail of the BRN-180 or the upper of any AR. That will tell you right away. |

I also am returning the stock. The screw heads bottomed out at the hinge, couldn’t tighten them anymore, and it was still loose on the back of my BRN forged lower.

I pulled this off reddit, user tested the clamp on the upper after it failed on lower.
THIS IS FROM REDDIT "Same loose fitment issues mounting to BRN-180 receiver. Shimmed it up. Really like the feel and aesthetics, disappointed that when I spoke with one of their gun techs his only suggestion was to return it, but he couldn’t guarantee a replacement because it was back ordered already. I asked him if anyone else had reported a problem, he said no. For shits and giggles, I mounted it to the upper, horizontal pic rail to check fitment. Solid, tight lock up, so it may be the lower’s stock pic rail is out of spec…." |

The BRN-180 stock hinge locked right up nice and solid on the top pic rail. So apparently my BRN-180 lower pic rail is quite a bit out of spec. So what to do? Return the “in-spec” non-serialized stock or try to return my serialized BRN-180 lower with undersized pic rail? The lower came from a 3rd party FFL when Brownell’s website was OOS. @Brownells_ar15 Unless Brownells is gonna do a run of undersized stock hinges. Apparently I am one of several folks with this issue. |

Figured id add what i can to potentially help here.
I do not have the Brownells folding stock, i have been using the Manticore arms folder that uses a Midwest industry hinge. So I measured out my picatinny rail at the back of my BRN 180 lower (the one with the angled up and back magwell) Thickest part of the rail measures at .835in and the thinner bit below is right at .750in. Both are pretty much dead on for spec. Serial is 180-0003XX |

Got my BRN-180 Gen2 folding stock in just now.
Fits nice on my BRN-180 lower AND AR-180B Nodak lower. Open wobble has been corrected. Closed wobble has not been corrected but as I said before this is of little concern to most buyers. Screws remain the same threaded. Texture has been added new to the surface. Nice. Not easy to close but should be OK. I did not have the other reported issue with loose on pic rail with either first release or this Gen2, so I can not address that specific issue as being corrected. I like it! Thanks. I will buy another soon. Matching pistol grip with metal loop swivel next please. @brownells @brownells_ar15 |

$151.99 using code 15off150. Also these folding assys are tight to open and close. VERY TIGHT. I am ill and weak and for me currently the last two I bought are 99% impossible to work it.
