I'm sorry about this little problem which has now, hopefully, been resolved. I hadn't gotten site staff involved because it NWOBHM was more than anuisance than anything else (and most of his venom was directed at me/RRA). I still didn't get staff involved, but hopefully their intervention will get us back on track without the problems. Look for more NEW information on the LAR-08 shortly after the first of the year. Prosperous, through the sale of 10,000 LAR8s. March-May is when my big royalty check arrives, and I should be contracting another book. I'll have PLENTY of disposable income, and a need for another gun. Especially a .308 autoloader. Alternately, Feb 6 is Sarah Brady's birthday, and I always celebrate with a new gun. If she wishes me to stop buying guns to celebrate, she has only to stop having birthdays. I wouldn't turn down a Feb 6 SCOTUS ruling on Heller, either. That would be ironic to the point of juicy. I reported him not Steve there is no reason for this I am wanting info on the LAR-8 not sophmorish locker room talk. Staff must agree that it is not needed. By the way thanks for the update on the stock. Steve you are doing a fine job of controling the trolls, and putting out info in this format, I am also impressed at how you personally handle customer problems, RRA choose the right person for this assignment and I hope you are getting paid a little extra since I am sure this is not your only job. Currently working on a Valdemar short for Misty Lackey's new antho, a tech article on firearms for SFWA so other writers can get it right, and a post-Freehold war novel with first contact with aliens. Got another unrelated one out on spec to gauge interest. Buy more. I'll write more.

| Hello Steve,glad to see that RRA is proceeding with the 308. I own one of the Bushmaster rifles and it is one of my favorite shooters. Naturally I keep waiting for something to break with no way to get repair parts turning this fine rifle into a conversation piece. Any hope for solutions with spares from RRA after the rifle is in full production? Regards and Happy New Year |

KAZ, Once the rifle is in full production, the plan is to sell it just as we do our LAR-15. Upper halves, lower halves, replacement parts, subs, options, and upgrades, etc....Just gotta crawl before walking before running....and we've been in the crawling stage for way too long. Most of the parts will interchange into your Bushy. A few will require buying an assembly before you'll be able to buy curent replacement parts. An example is the bolt...we've changed it enough that you'll need a new bolt carrier group (including the bolt, etc...) before you'll be able to use the current LAR-8 component parts. The new carrier group will, however, work in your existing BFI upper (as long as head space is still good). Steve/RRA |

I will continue to shoot and enjoy. No doubt I will buy a complete RRA 308 rifle at some point when available. Credit to your company for not shipping the product until it is as right as possible.Regards |
When you guys recieve your "surprise" I would REALLY LOVE to hear some range reports regarding groups size at 100 yds. Benchrest style. I have been waiting.... And saving..... and waiting... and saving.. And I already have 1k rounds of ammo for this gun. |

| I wish it was gonna be MArch of 08. I have had one on order now for about 2 years.Every date thety say comes and goes. Read some of the old post's in this forum. There is one from Steve from1-4-06 saying they would be done in late summer.Its now 2008 and still no lar-8.Come on Rock River either produce the rifle or at least let the public know what the hold up is.DONT YOU THINK THE CUSTOMER HAS THE RIGHT TO KNOW. Maybe those Armalite's arent looking so bad after all,at least you can get one of those. MIKE |

When we give an ETA and it went by, we were bad guys. When we stopped giving incorrect ETAs, we were bad guys. Even if I give an ETA that is correct, I'll be a bad guy until the shipments actually start on or before that date, and then I'll be a bad guy because I couldn't get Scotty to "beam" a LAR-8 to every dealer who has one on order. I know what the planned production schedule is. I know who's building what assemblies and sub-assemblies (note: not who is GOING to build what, but who IS building what). I know which accessories and subs will be in the first, second, and third phases of introduction. But some people have caused the "sharing" of information to be greatly reduced. Some by calling and cussing out my well-meant co-workers in our Sales Department. Some by trolling and by shilling for other companies in the industry under multiple accounts on this and other boards, spreading misinformation and outright lies (some of it has even been out in the open on their own forums, which is at least commendable as we'll all know who was completely wrong and will look like a horse's ass when the time comes). Don't get me wrong. We have had (and have acknowledged) more than our share (fair or otherwise) of delays, miscommunication, lack of communication, etc...and we are sorry that we ever showed the rifle or took orders before it was ready to go. There were several occasions when we were ready to go, only to have some unforeseeable issue arise to screw up our commercial production. No excuses. Statements of fact. We've learned a lot from this whole situation. We've put alot of time, effort, and money into it as well. When the LAR-8s do come out, they are a far better product than what they could have been if we had just "gone ahead and shipped" at any of several points along the line over the past year and a half. Hey Steve, Have you put Slash's buffer in a mil spec diam VLTOR AR-10 extension with the full length AR-10 spring yet? This is how Im planning on running the lowers when they come out. Like I said its worked great for me on the Barf-10,cant wait to hear how it works for you, your input is greatly appreciated. |
I bought a 6.5 Grendel because I could not wait anymore. It shoots flatter, hits as hard. stays supersonic past 1,200 yards and is accurate past 1,000 yards. If you cant wait anymore move on to your next project and come back to the LAR-8 when it's available. I can assure you, anything from RRA will be worth the wait. Just my .02

As a BAR-10 owner, I would be interested in hearing the reasons why you changed what you did from the initial Bushmaster design to what you have now - sometime after the LAR-8 is released (I think it would just open a can of worms now). I'm particularly curious to know if that Australian fella's (the feral animal control guy) experiences had any influence on the redesign of the bolt. |

Some of the changes were made as a result of feedback from users, others from our own testing and further development of the earlier designs. We distinguished between basic changes, which are just something that's different, and improvements, which are something better. We concentrated on the improvements. Externally, you're not going to see a lot that's different. Internally several improvements were made...some for function, some to make it more user and builder friendly. The BAR-10 upper halves will fit and function on the LAR-8 lower halves, and the LAR-8 upper halves will do the same on the BM/BAR-10 lower halves. Many, but not all, parts will be interchangeable. Some will require replacement of complete assemblies to be interchangeable...ie the bolt. The new bolts have several improvements to them, and a new bolt carrier group is required to use them in a BM/BAR-10. Once that new carrier group is installed in a BM/BAR-10, the new bolts and associated new parts will be interchangeable with the LAR-8. Additionally, as many LAR-15 parts as reasonably possible were used in the LAR-8. The diagrams in the LAR-8 manual call everything out by their RRA part numbers and names to simplify ordering (eventually all user installable parts will be available) and referencing parts by proper name and number. Indeed. When you have multiple revisions, they all require that everything already existing, and all of the revisions be checked against everything else. Changing one pin diameter will affect several parts directly, but it may also have an impact on the function of both related and unrelated parts...all of which have to be tested both by computer (the easy part), solid modeling, and generally beta testing with hand made "one-off" parts. If anything isn't as it needs to be, you're back at the previous stage, either rethinking the most recent change or the existing (or already revised)parts/subassemblies/assemblies etc...Just "tweaking" a tiny angle can mean days or even weeks (and you can't predict how long it will be) of delays as parts are redone and tested with and against one another. Then it may be right or you may get to repeat that process again. We've shot thousand of rounds function testing otherwise non-monumental revisions just to verify that they don't create problems of their own. Steve/RRA |
I already have six 20 and one 30 round mags, metric and inch, with 400 assorted rounds of commercial, surp, mil and match ammo to give it a thorough wringing out, a combat photographer, range sheets and a range ready.

Mike, Only 400rds? Seriously, that should be enough to give you a good idea of what you're working with. We both know that a lot of the bulk packaged milsurp isn't going to be tack driving ammo, but that's to be expected. On the othe rhand, good quality ammo has been doing pretty well in testing. +1, I want something I can consider a sniper rifle and I want it to be an RRA rifle. I don't have any ammo stocked away as I'm working on my 5.56 stash ATM, but I will be getting .308 or handloading if I have to. Mike, don't you have some books to write?

Just sold my DPMS 308 and now waiting to see what RRA will come out with. My 18" heavy barreled DPMS shot MOA with no problem. The only alteration I made was adding the Ben Cooly/JP barrel compensator. Hope RRA will keep 300 to 400 meter accuracy in mind with their LAR8 rifle introduction. A threaded barrel option for adding a compensator of my choice to the barrel would be nice or offer diffrent compensators from the factory. Currently waiting for my RRA 9mm CAR4. I'm in the second week of a projected 6 week wait according to my dealer. |
