You guys need to kick the marketing dept swiftly in the balls, and stop announcing release dates. In any case, I'm waiting for your .308 to hit the shelves despite a buddy who keeps telling me about his .308 AR that prints sub 1/2 MOA... |

Forrest, I've laid the ground work for a get-even bet. This time my opponent has chosen 3/31/08 for the date. I get to pick BEFORE 3/31/08 or AFTER 3/31/08. Whattayouthink...........before or after ?? 5sub |

I don't know... I certainly hope that it's before. Why not pick 2/15/08 as the decision date? After all, that'll be two years from when I placed the order. (But if I had to guess, I'd guess before... If it runs too much past that, it might just be 'never' given how the political winds might be blowing, if you catch my drift... What do ya think, Steve? Should 5sub pick before or after? Forrest |

The smart move for RRA would be to do WHATEVER it takes to get some productions guns in the hands of consumers before SHOT 2008. |

I have followed this thread and others about it here till I feel sorry for all involved. Piss poor marketing....... Terrible prouction problems.... And a RRA Moderator who has constantly offered more excuses. I truly feel sorry for him,,,,,,,,,,He has been put in a terrible position before the consumer. I cancelled my order. |

Heck, now is not the time to give up! We're just getting close to the point where we can start trying to shame them into giving us freebies for being such LOYAL customers!!!
|
I gave up too. Spent my money elsewhere. It doesn't take 2yrs to work out a couple minor issues. RR just spits out excuses/lies to fill the gaps. "Very Close" "Parts" "Legal Issues" "Minor Issues".... blah blah blah... and I promise I won't ... in your... blah blah blah.... |
Forrest, My opponent - Kingsley (aka the Kingfish) - got to pick the date and I get the before or after. Based on YOUR feelings Forrest, I've picked BEFORE 3/31/08 !! Now Forrest don't let me down again. 5sub |

I would say before that date, but then the folks who don't/no longer have/have never had a dog in this fight will chime in and call it a promise date.... I want mine too...and I'm after Forrest on the list...and don't get to pull my A4 out of order to get it sooner, either. For those who have cancelled, I've already apologized that we let you down and I/we perfectly understand both your consternation and why you've cancelled. Speculating about the delay is fine, although since NONE of those who doing so are in a position to KNOW anything, it's only speculation, and should be taken as such. The LAR-08s will start shipping as soon as all the parts to build them with are in-house. Calls will start at approximately the same time, as the standard models will be shipped in order from oldest to newest, and if a cancellation occurs, that rifle will be passed to the next order in line. Remember, the gun was originally slated to be called the LAR-10. A 2008 release would put RRA way ahead of schedule if your theory is correct. |

RRA Steve, (This is NOT any kind of 'gotcha' so don't answer if improper.) If, I say *IF* the production delay has anything to do with the use of FAL mags, will RRA at some point release the LAR-08 for use with the proprietary mags ?? Over the weekend, I was thinking about one of your old posts - probably in the now locked previous many page LAR-08 thread - that you thought RRA would have the proprietary mags ready for shipment 1st quarter 08. Also seems likely the LAR-08 will ship 1st quarter 08. Or maybe I'm just linking two disparate factoids* . 5sub *Course I may be linking two rumortoids too !!! |

I can't imagine they are deliberately stalling in order to create bad vibes. I hear that all the time in the publishing industry. "Oh, they're holding off publishing XXX just to tick the fans off." Right, because no corporation wants to make money selling products. Obviously, there was some issue came up. Now, I could speculate that perhaps the receiver was too long, in order to take that FAL mag, and is prone to cracking. I could speculate on some kind of legal objection from FN, which wouldn't go anywhere, but FN is HUGE and RRA is SMALL. I could guess on a variety of things. Obviously, something is delaying it. Equally obviously, RRA still believes in it and is working on it, or they'd have said otherwise and dropped it. The delay is NOT helping them, so it's obviously not malicious, nor are they so short of money they need to promise something they can't deliver to raise a few $$. I, too, wish our moderator could give further details. But in any intellectual pursuit, some things are kept secret until production (Just TRY to get details on my next book. I know. Toni at Baen knows. That's it. Oh, it's in my will, just in case). There are pluses and minuses to being first on the list. Plus: First on the list. Minus: Might have to wait or pay a premium. Remember the first CD players at $1000? Remember Windows 95/98/ME/Vista? Of course, if it's not right when it comes out, after all this prep, then I could see some bitching ![]() I feel sorry for the moderator, who has to keep all these secrets and hold back the hordes. |
|
I know that there are all sorts of "conspiracy" theories out there about the delays, but there's really nothing mysterious about it. No lower receivers equals no rifles. Simple as that. No issue with name, or design features (our patents are available on-line at the US Patent Office, and have been posted in this forum previously), or money. It's all about getting lower receivers machined and through production to the point where they can be used to build lower halves for rifles. We're doing everything we can to get it done and to get high quality product out the door to you. Believe me when say that it is a far bigger irritant to us than it is to any of you. I try to keep you guys informed...there just hasn't been a lot of new information for a while. I've got a line of accessories for the LAR-08 already designed and some already in production. Handles and mounts. Free float aluminum tubes and quad rails. More barrel options. Subs (where appropriate) just like on our other caliber offerings. But rather than make the situation even murkier, they aren't going to be shown or offered until the rifles are in production. Happy Holidays to you and yours from RRA. Steve/RRA |

Just as a remnder, we have NOT required that anyone pre-pay for a LAR-08, and have kept the price, including new orders, exactly as it was set in '06, despite significant increases in cost. Some dealers have required prepayment, but that is their business practice, not ours. As far as monry set aside for the LAR-08...I know that pain myself. I could have picked up a Costa Mesa 180 a month ago, but I didn't get sucked into it and still have my LAR-08 money set aside (but it hurt not to get that one) Steve/RRA |
RRA Steve, once upon a while ago, I owned Costa Mesa AR-180 serial numbers 98 and 99. 5sub |

Tommy, The cost to manufacture a finished product change regularly. Within a few bucks one way or the other you don't change anything because it all pretty much washes out. Over the course of two years, from the time that priceing was determined (which is largely based on cost) 'til now, cost has gone up significantly. Whether the parts are already in hand or we''re still waiting for them, either their cost or the cost to replace them is higher than the original components. We're absorbing that rather than passing it on to you guys. The price will eventually go up, but for now it is staying exactly the same as cataloged currently and previously. Steve/RRA |
And there is usually an introductory price for new products for a limited time. (As RRA has not yet delivered, buyers are still within that grace period.) 5sub |

Just to let everyone know what I found out recently for the current BAR-10 and upcoming LAR-8. I started with two of Slashs Bushmaster Arhg-10 buffers ,which are the shiznit.Contact Slash. I added the" Vltor AR-10 carbine reciever extension" which is longer than your average AR-15 carbine reciever extension to the Bushmaster lower. I got them from Operation Parts online. It has to be the AR-10 specific one guys, not just any old vltor reciever will work they are not long enough. Then I installed the AR-10 factory buffer spring or AR-10 carbine spring, it doesnt matter which one you use, because they are the same length. SKD tactical for these. WHAT THIS MEANS IS YOU DO NOT HAVE TO TRIM THE BUFFER SPRING TO GET THE BOLT TO LOCK BACK ON AN EMPTY FAL MAG AND TOU ARE SETUP TO TAKE MILSPEC COLLAPSIBLE STOCKS. Hoorayyyy Thanks to Slash for the buffers which makes this possible. |
|
So far I haven't had the same experience with the buffer Slash provided me, but that has been with factory 223 CAR receiver extensions...still playing with different combinations of components (ours and those from other companies)to get to the same end that you have reached. Steve/RRA |
| I am really thinking hard about getting one |

| Can I get some more info on these rifles? Mostly has there been an articles out on them yet? Also for the guys who have theres how have they been shooting? Last this is for the Mod here how long is it taking to get these rifles right now? Thanks for the help I've been out of the loop past 3 Months thanks to Dallas police academy!! |
There are no rifles. They have been waiting on receivers for 8 months. I'm pretty sure a monkey with a chisel can do it faster. Probably better off spending your money on an Armalite AR10 at this point. Most people have long since given up. This project is kinda like the Shrike except no deposit required. |
|
There's a Petersens Outdoor episode airing ont he Outdoor Channel currently featuring RRA 6.8s, .458s. and LAR-08 .308 rifles on a hunt in Texas that took place a month or two back. I haven't seen it yet, but we had a few calls about it yesterday who said that they or ciutomers had seen it earlier in the week (Tuesday or Wednesday). There are LAR-08s out and about (with some in use) and have been for months. There are none out and about COMMERCIALLY right now. Significant difference. Regular commercial production is slated to start very soon, but if you'l follow the history of this thread, I am not going to give any time frames until the first commercial models start to ship out. When they're ready, those in this forum wil be the first to know. Happy holidays to everyone (even the trolls, manufacturer shills, and Grinches). Steve/RRA |
If you tell me Jim Zumbo got hold of one before I did, there'll be fightin words If I may speculate here: 1 So, the design works and has been tested. 2 The delay is in production. 3 Since it uses FAL mags, the feed lips are effectively part of the receiver, not the mag. 4 The AR receiver is a wee bit more complex than the FAL's (milled, not stamped and welded). 5 Machining these suckers is a technological bitch akin to the problems Springfield had with the M14 early on. (I can see, forex, difficulty with tight corners needing small ball ends, which is an extra machining step. This means a DNC mill, plenty of bits and a good programmer.) 6 There aren't many machine shops with the proper equipment willing to handle something as "small" as a few thousand rifles, when they can be doing jet engine components or Harley parts (two of the contracts my father in law had for his multi-axis laser shop as examples). 7 Then, said parts have to retain dimension after heat treat, and be tested to confirm reliability. 8 THEN the production run starts, and takes a while. 9 Then the usual paperwork, ATF stuff, IRS stuff, possible customs if they're imported. 10 Then we get rifles. I'm gathering it's around steps 8-9 at this point. Of course, I could be wrong. |
That must be Geologically speaking.
|
Then kindly STFU and get out of this thread. If you don't have something useful to contribute go away. .
