Hi everyone. I'm starting (and tacking) this new thread as a form of FYI/New Product Info/General Info. I don't expect a bunch of replies, but will certainly answer those that do appear. For this first thread, some info on new parts and lead times. We have, on a very limited basis, some threaded (pre) light-under-the-handguard R4 barrels in both chrome-lined 1:9 and stainless 1:8. These will be available for a very limited time and in limited quantities. They are not available on-line due to the limited availability. If you are interested in a bbl assy, upper half, or rifle built with one of these bbls, please contact our Sales department ASAP at 309-792-5780. Also new, we've redesigned our R4 handguard to a true double heat shield model. All of our rifles and uppers with the R4 hand guard as a standard feature will be shipping with the double heat shield handguards at no additional charge. That applies to the black R4 handguards for now, and we're working on the green for the near future. Lead times: By bringing in more help and training them over several months, we've been able to increase or capacity, and in turn, shorten our lead times on MANY builds. Rigth now most "normal" configurations are shipping within 5-7 business days from time of order. Orders with substitutions and the Pro-Series rfles will generally take longer. There will, of course, be some exceptions to this generalization based on parts and accessory availability, temporary parts issues, multiple rifles that are requested to be shipped together, any customer contact that migth be required before shipment, etc... We strive to be open and honest with our customers. We also try to listen to our customers. Just as examples, when we heard a repeated, but limited, request for light bbls, we made some. When the FBI wanted an EOTech mount, the Dominator (and, eventually the Dominator 2) was made. Thats's enough for now. I hope to be able to post new product information and other updates within this thread. Please check occasionally for my updates. Thanks. Steve/RRA (edited for clarity on R4 handguards) |

More News, November 16, 2006: While there was very limited election-based "panic" ordering immediately following the election, increased orders as a response to the election are now coming in. We don't anticipate any huge delays as there were when the AWB was allowed to sunset, there will probably be some spot delays while supply catches up with demand. We're still looking pretty good on "regular" builds, but when a work order comes across with thirteen+ (honest..it happens) substitutions and several "ship with rifle" parts/accessories, in all likelihood there may be some delays. There will be more barrels offered in our January 2007 catalog, and others that we will offer in limited numbers of during the up-coming year (just like the stainless and chrome-lined moly light weight R4s that we did over the last couple months). Some to meet an identified (but not huge) demand and others to test the waters on different offerings. We've also learned a lot over the past year. Despite our best intentions, delays have been endemic to bringing some products to market within the timetables we had established. We did not intend to lead anyone on about those offerings; they are real and will be on the market just as soon as we are happy with the finished versions. Our new catalog will have some new product in it, but our website (rockriverarms.com) will become much more dynamic and will be the primary method of introducing new product between catalog printings. I'll also try to give the forumites here a heads-up as new releases are imminent. Enough for now. More details to follow on much of which has been alluded to here. Stay tuned. Steve/RRA |

Once we're moving on the 6.8 rifles, we'll have appropriately caliber marked lower receivers. Expect approximately January/February. A lot of projects are going to be coming to fruition all at once right around that time, or even a little sooner on a couple. Steve/RRA |
| Any chance we'll see an 18" stainless barrel offering for a mid-length this year? I'd like to order an A4 CAR middie but want an 18" barrel, preferable stainless and fluted. I recently bought one of the small run stainless R4 "lite" barrelled Entry Tacticals from RBPrecision (great folks. BTW) but just happened upon it while searching for an E.T. I'd like to be able to put an order in if such a barrel is in the works. Thanks and God bless. |
|
Unlikely, but don't rule anything out. If we run a mid 18" this year, it will probably be a 1:9 mid-length chrome moly, and probably wouldn't be fluted. In the quantities that we have to run barrels, we have to be able to justify the large production runs, and quite often, we can't. An option you might consider is buying an 18" varmint barrel and having it turned by a good gunsmith to whatever profile you want, fluted, threaded, and either re-stress relieved or cryoed after the work is done to it. SHOT Show 2007 has come and gone. A few new releases, but we're concentrating ongetting out what we've already promised you. The first .458 SOCOMS are coming out within a couple weeks, and the are the 6.8SPCs are right behind. The .308 RRA LAR-10 is right behind that, then the 40 S&W. We have many more projects pending, but they are being back-burnered to get out what we've already told our customers is on the way. While we may do another new catalog later in the year, most of thenew products, whether RRA or one of our vendors, will be showing up on rockriverarms.com as we bring them in, rather than waiting for that next catalog. The website will be evolving as well to be more dynamic, more useful, and more timely. I'm working on a FAQ section. I'm going to be adding some basic tech info. Maybe a rifle trouble-shooting section. Check the site now and then...I think that you'll find something new there quite frequently. Enough for now. Steve/RRA |
Hi Steve, I'm new to this "black rifle" stuff, but most interested in the RRA 6.8 spc. Do you have an availibility date on these yet and once shipping begins will there be a long wait while RRA fills backorders? Any info (or best guessThanks, Jerry |

Note To All: The "MAP is a Bad Thing" thread was deleted by me after weeks of it going nowhere. Steve at ADCO (bigbore), the original poster of the thread, made some valid points concerning a policy decision by RRA ownership and management, and all of those points are being considered. His arguments were well made and showed thought going into them. A large number of the other posts, however, did not. As almost every post of late (including my own responses) were just reiterations of what had already been said, I made the decision to end it. Thank you. Steve/RRA |

Evan, Not initially. The reports I've seen so far really don't support any significant improvements in performance between 16 and 20" 6.8s, but I'm sure that at some point I'll have some sample 18" and 20" bbls in hand to build up and test to determine for ourselves if that is somewhere we want to go. Why delete the thread instead of just locking it? |

Two reasons 1. Before I locked it I would have removed about half of the posts which were primarily along the lines of "you guys suck for wanting to keep your dealers in business" and weren't contributing to either this dialogue or the one we're having internally. 2. I can't get my lock function to work properly...I did try that first. Steve/RRA |
+1 on a RRA offering 20" 6.8 SPC barrels. May I suggest .710" under the handguards / in front of the FSB? Thanks, Chris |

We have our own storefront on Commercial Row. Number 911A. This week is Smallbore, so it'll probably be quieter than either last week (Pistol Phase) or the end of next week (beginning of the high power and service rifle phases). Early next week is a transitional time whenwe may be in and out...shifting people and product around. Steve/RRA |
Will you personally be at the store anytime during the matches? |

It's up in the air right now, but I don't think I'll be out there this year. I go to a lot of other events/activites/meetings for the company on top of my day-to-day activities, and I know I have two conflicts with my attending at Perry already. We'll see how it works out. Steve/RRA |

FYI: On Sept 1, 2007 we initiated free shipping on retail web orders in excess of $25 from the RRA website (www.rockriverarms.com). This offer is scheduled to run through the end of the calendar year. We have a few more specials planned between now and the holidays...so pop over to the site every now and then to check for new specials and new product (it gets updated between catalogs). Steve/RRA |

We've always prioritized domplete rifles over lower halves, followed by stripped lowers. We've never ceased shipping stripped lowers...but even with increased (again, and again, and again) lower production, there just aren't always enough to go around. So using the prioritization, most are going into rifles, a good chunk going into lower halves, and the balance going out as stripped lowers. More increases have already occured, so the situation should be getting better shortly. Steve/RRA |
| One other question, is it easier to make complete uppers then to make to make the lowers? Or are lowers just more in demand than the uppers. Everyone I talk to says they have plenty of uppers, but no one can get lowers for quite a while. I guess it just goes to show you how great of a product you make if people won't stop buying them in hoards. I am happy to wait for a better product then have one now that wont satisfy my desires. |
|
Demand for lowers (in all forms) from the civilian sector hit a spike within a few days of the 2006 elections and has remained at a high level ever since. Concerns over future legislation seems to be driving much of this demand, as well as improvements in the economy which have freed up some money that may have been more closely held previously. Steve/RRA |

I know MANY people who have begun hording lowers so that they will have "weapons" that are grandfathered in if/when the next "assault" weapon ban hits. If you own a pre-ban lower you can then build it any way you want, assuming they word this next ban the same way they did the last. I am surprised the waiting period is as short as it is..... |
|
About two years into the last ban ATF declared that stripped pre-ban lowers were, in fact, not pre-ban as they hadn't been built into a pre-ban configuration prior to the ban, making them post-ban even though their production and shipping date pre dated the ban. HR1022 is bad enough, but if the antis keep or, worse yet, gain control in DC, don't expect the next ban that they try to push through to be as "benevolent" as they said they were in '94, especially in regards to any sunset provisions. Remember that during the primary/caucus cycle and at the general election in November '08. Steve/RRA |
EEEK.....Ya mean I gotta buy uppers for all those lowers I've been stashing!!!! hatNO pistol grip rifles with a removable magazine available to the general public. Bye Bye AR's of any sort...... heaper |
| What is hr1022? And how would the atf be able to differentiate between a pre ban lower and a post ban lower? Do you need permission from the atf to put an upper on top of a lower? I can't see any way for them to enforce that law. And if they did they would have to be spying on you before the ban occured just to know that you were putting together a rifle that you bought 2 years before. It would be close to impossible to enforce that law and if they did it would probably be considered unconstitutional if anyone took it all the way to the top. So I wouldn't worry too much about it. So far I have never seen an atf agent at my range asking to take people's guns apart to see if they were put together illegally. |
|
It would all depend on the exact wording of any new law and how both Congress and BATFE (re)interpret it. During the 94-04 ban, there was even a lot of discussiojn (early on in particular) of the legality of using std capacity mags in an AWB compliant rifle. Steve/RRA |
If you buy uppers to go along with those lowers...just keep receipts to prove the date when they were purchased. Stupid? Yes. Prudent? Absolutely, if only to short-curcuit any stupid upcoming laws any anti-2A forces may try to pass...from either party. |
