Used my Grendel to go hunting in TX last week. We were stalking up a dried river bed looking for pigs and found this red sheep trying to take a nap. I obliged by letting him permanently take a nap. http://i.imgur.com/Xxfi8Gt.jpg?1 View Quote |

8208 XBR and Sierra 107 TMK data from today, about 48 degrees, sea level, seating at approximately 2.258, but there was some variation on that, I should have checked with the bullet comparitor first, 1x Hornady brass, Rem 7.5 primers:
28.5: 2578, SD 26 28.8: 2611, SD 14.5 29.1: 2639, SD 12.3 29.4: 2653, SD 8.7 29.7: 2663, SD 10.4 Unfortunately groups, or lack there of, were not worth mentioning. They were patterns at best until 29.4 where I had a slightly less than 1" group and 29.7 was around 1.75. Minor ejector marks at 29.4, but nothing crazy, 29.7 definitely had some. I would take pix but unfortunately I dropped the box and the spent casings got all jumbled up. Any suggestions on where to go from here? |

I have been tinkering with a load for my Grendel on and off since getting it last fall, and I have finally had the time to spend a couple range trips in a row tuning it. I have found a nice load at 28.1 grains of AR comps with the 123 ELD with a 2.260 OAL. My groups average 3/4 MOA for 5 shots at 100 yards with my smallest group being in the .450" range. My velocity is averaging right at 2500 fps with an SD of 12 and and ES of 17. Im pretty happy with it. I still need to prove it out a little bit over more shots and out to distance but given my experience with this cartridge I feel confident I will be able to continue to repeat these results. I wish it were easier to get pics up in threads so I could post a picture of my rig but I dont know how.

8 months is not bad at all! Was that for a trust or an individual if you don’t mind my asking?

Got my first tranquillo last week after submitting trust docs last August. 7 months is awesome. Weird thing is I have a SOCOM 7.62 mini still in jail that I submitted March 4 of last year. Same trust. Go figure...

Guys using trust, are you guys making copies of notarized trust to send in with paperwork?

[#22]
Yes, send a copy of the notarized trust with any schedules referenced by the trust.

Yeah, if you can use a silencer shop kiosk it makes it super easy. Once you are in their system you can submit stuff in minutes.

Question for the Grendel guys. What brand of magazines are you using? Have you had any issues with any other brands?
The reason that I ask is that I took my 6.5G to the range today and had nothing but problems. After just a handful of rounds I packed it up and finished the day shooting something else. I figured that I might try a different magazine since changing brands of ammo had no effect. |

Quoted: Runs great. Full rifle and UU both come with a non adjustable gas block. I went with an adjustable on the 12.5" barrel I'm using with the UU kit to tune for steel case vs brass and to be able to run my Omega on it as it's lighter but causes a lot more back pressure. Not really necessary with the TQ. View Quote |

Took the grendel out yesterday for the first time. Gun ran great and grouped as expected but had tons of mag issues with the elander 24 and 17 round mags...
Shot both Hornady 130g black and the Hornady Gunner 123 bthp. The ammo column in the magazine would bind and not feed up at all or would be sluggish causing many nose dives into the front of the mag. Have a nice pile of set backed rounds now. The mags were brand new. I believe the ammo column is being force out to the sidewalls by the follower/spring causing the binding issues. I can also simulate this by pushing the round down in the mag by hand. Anyone else experience this? I will snag some pics later when I get to the shop. |

I have had zero issues with 25 and 10 round elanders in my 6.5G. I do have 2 C-products that were shipped with the rifle that won't feed the second round if fully loaded. As long as I leave them one round short they work fine. Trying to remember if the C-products are 5 or 10 rounders but my brain is cramping...

I finally had time to put my TranQuilo brake on last night. Holy smokes that green loc-tite aka hulk juice is no joke. Thought I had the shims timed correctly with dry threads and hand-tight fitting, so I added 3 drops of green juice and torqued with a wrench to 45. Clocked it a couple degrees too far and tried to back it off but something about the difference between hand-tight and torque-wrench tight activated the loc-tite and it was a bear to get back off.
Cleaned it up, timed with new shims using dry threads and torque wrench, and added the hulk juice again. All is well. I do note that the black-marked theta shims I received are not compatible with the Tranquilo brake. They have an outer diameter that is larger than the inner diameter of the brake collar. |

Took my LaRue 6.5 Grendel along with several other LaRue rifles out to my buddy’s farm this weekend. We had eight of his son’s college ROTC buddies out for a shooting weekend. We set up two AR500 targets, a 12” gong and a 2/3 IPSC. They were banging steel with ease from 400 yards with the Burris MTAC.
Other crowd favorites were the FDE Heavy, 22” UU 6.5 CM, and 16” Stealth. |

I think we old soldiers enjoyed spending time with the next generation of troops as much as the troops enjoyed shooting all those fancy rifles.

This is a superbly-built rifle from head-to-toe. Receiver fit is like a vault. I haven't owned a factory AR15 since 1997, and have lost count of how many I built since then. That changed today. This is literally my first factory AR15 since 1997. As I look it over, handle it, and feel the BCG sliding inside the upper like a hydraulic strut riding on oil, I realize this isn't your typical billet AR15. Everything is some LaRue design made in-house or specific to LaRue, with a lot of thought into the engineering, application, testing, and evolution of the components. They all combine into something greater than the sum of the parts. http://i1085.photobucket.com/albums/j422/LRRPF52/20170721_163911_zpssvjptewn.jpg http://i1085.photobucket.com/albums/j422/LRRPF52/20170721_185026_zpshmozoc8b.jpg http://i1085.photobucket.com/albums/j422/LRRPF52/20170721_184924_zpswlxrczwo.jpg View Quote What brand is the rail piece on the bottom of your handguard? I'm at my wits end with my 6.5g UU kit. It either hates the Hornady black or I got a bum barrell. I have tried 2 scopes and 3 support methods to try to rule things out. 120 rounds down range over multiple range trips and average 5 shot group is a smidge over 2" at a 100 yards.
It was assembled with proper torque using a calibrated torque wrench (ie not Chinese crap). As a shooter I am capable of 1/2 moa on my bolt gun. All larue except a surefire flash hider. I have not tried with any other ammo as I bought 400 rounds when I got the rifle. Any thoughts? |

^^^ Shoot it without that flash hider on it. View Quote I had the sun setting right in front of me so I had to use one hand to cover the sun out of my eyes. Regardless the groups easily cut in half! For my 3 shot I had 3x sub moa and 2x just a smidge above moa. The last 3x shot group was all touching and I decided to go for five but I rushed a little and jumped it to a 2moa group. Now I need to give it a good cleaning after all the rounds down range and see if that helps improve accuracy a little bit. Thanks again Mark! |
