Good call, EL
We will know for sure one week from today ––- know what I mean? Oh I believe its here alright, just a matter of them trickling down to the unwashed masses. The industry, Colt included, has blossomed over the past several months. There are so many options and competitors, that in some ways there is a watered down excitement based on the shear volume of new products, and inventory coming online. Ought to be interesting for us Colt enthusiasts for sure. |

I'm pretty confident that it's semi-auto. . . .
Redfisher, have a good time at SHOT. Wish I could go. It's been years since I could make it to SHOT. . . . . |

I'll check it out next week while i'm at Shot Show and try to report back.

Rumor has it the final shipping version has a QD sling mount at the front of the rail too.

And a vertical foregrip with visible laser and running light. . . .
|
|

I have seen the VFG laser/running light, its angeled like the trigger grip, you can toggle between the laser and light. and I think its QR
It also has a trigger to activate the light/laser. Have you heard if it will have that VLTOR stock on it like in those pics on DEFREV or just a plain M4 stock? |

I dunno. My guess would be the M4 stock. I don't put a lot of confidence in DefRev's work. . .

My dealer called me today to tell me about the new "Colt MRP with flip-up sights" that he has on order. Needless to say, it turns out he was talking about the 6490.
Funny thing was, though, he said he had twelve on order, and had already taken the liberty of reserving one specifically for me, assuming, of course, that as a Colt freak, I'd most likely want one, otherwise, he could still just sell it on the floor. He said should be finding out some more about 'em at SHOT, and should have 'em not long afterwards. ~Augee |

if you do manage to get one secretly and without permission, remember to take the FA BCG out, so you dont get arrested as soon as you touch it

The VFG is from LaserMax and is discussed here. The Colt CGL-R/L retails for $399 and has an integrated red aiming laser and traveling light. The CGL-R/L attaches to the M1913 rail mount system. The laser has two modes: Hi-Vis pulsating mode; and continuous on.
Here's a pic from a thread elsewhere: |

I'm a Colt fanatic like the rest of you, but I just don't see what all the excitement is about. I certainly think it's a step in the right direction, but I wouldn't pay a premium for it. Like most things, good things come to those who wait. In eight months to a year every Colt distributor in the country will be trying to unload these things.
|

Hope you're right. I'd like one of these in my Colt collection.

Wonder when/if the SBR versions are coming? 6941 and 6943? I remember the photos of the 1033 looked great!
Don't know for sure, but I'd imagine that they'll come with something similar to "ADVANCE LAW ENFORCEMENT CARBINE," that's what they were calling the 1020. ~Augee |

Handled the rifle at SHOT SHOW yesterday...it does indeed use the lower of the 6920 Law Enforcement Carbine. Very nice rifle, but I kind of expected that! Can't wait for my order to arrive!

I also handled the 6940 at Shot and it was nice although not earth shatttering. I quizzed one of the reps and he indicated that the folding front sight was constructed of titanium and produced by Matech. The rail is reportedly machined in house and is pretty sweet. I was impressed by the overall weight or lack thereof of the carbine in comparison to say a 16" LMT MRP. If I could snag one for around dealer price I would buy one. I did get a nice poster/schematic illustrating the 6940 and will try and snap a picture of it.
On a side note; I was fortunate enough to attend the tour of the Knight's facility which included a guided tour of Mr. Knight's private collection which apparently is second in size to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth's. It was most impressive to say the least. Cheers |

did it look like the 6940 rail would accept the KAC rail cover panels?

Yes it appeared they would fit. Colt conveniently machined QD sockets in the forward portion of the rail by the gasblock however they neglected to put the QD sockets in the aft section of the rail by the upper receiver. Also the folding front sight did not lock in either open or closed position. It will be a nice little blaster with the addition of a SOPMOD stock and an Aimpoint and $1,300.00 (dealer price) is pretty good considering it has a rail and rear BUIS.
Since I shoot lefty I am personally interested in obtaining an SR-15 I3 EWS but that is another topic. Cheers Originally Posted By Shawnmt6601:

Keeping the post alive. What's the word on the 6940? Is it just more SHOT vaporware? Does anyone have a confirmed sighting on dealer's shelves?
|
|
|
I actually saw one and handled it three weeks ago, so I am certain it exists. I wanted to purchase it on the spot but dealer wanted $3K for it, which was out of my budget. It pretty much looks like the 6920 but with a monolithic rail and some really nice iron sights as well. It comes with all the rails already on so it's good to go out of the box. I am hoping that if it becomes more readily available that the price drops a bit.

That dealer was gouging! Dealer price is around $1300.

I had the opportunity to see my friend's 6940 today. It is a beautiful carbine. As others have said, the lower is the same as the lower for the 6920 –– there are no differences –– with the same markings. The upper is a gorgeous monorail upper.
The press release announcing the "LE Monolithic Advanced Law Enforcement Carbine" states the following:

The million dollar question is when can we get one?
|
|
|
Glad you asked. I forgot to mention that Colt is making about 2300-2600 of the 6920 and 6940 a month. There's about a difference in monthly production of about 300 between the two, but I don't recall which is the greater of the two. These should start showing up soon. . . .
One other thing: part of the delay in getting the first 500 out was the "special" laser vertical foregrip. Apparently, the company making the laser VFG got served with a summons and complaint and so the VFG won't be available, at least any time soon. |
|
WWPRD |
has anyone had a chance to find out how hard/easy it would be to change out the barrel? And how does the front site stay up? Is it like the KAC 300 meter rear site?

The front sight does not lock when in the up position. It is pretty firm, though, in the up position.

I hope dealers don't bend everyone over by asking 3 grand like the one poster mentioned. As long the economy is in the shiiter I don't see a ban any time soon. But then again with the likes of Biden, Pelosi, Schumer and the other cast of characters anything is possible. |

Will you be able to get the barrel-less 6940 upper receivers from SAW or Brownells and whatever special tool for the barrel nut?

Dude, you said "special tool" and "nut". . . .
Afterall, you'll want that special tool so you don't bust a nut! |
