Hello, Nathan
I have (3) recent builds with Faxon Heavy Fluted Match barrels. One is an 18" 7.62, one an 18" 6.5 Creedmoor, the last a 24" 6.5 Creedmoor. They have JP adjustable gas blocks w/ rifle length gas systems.
I have JP BCG's installed into Aero Precision M5 uppers, (2) of them "Full-Mass" and (1) of them "Light Mass" carriers. All three rock JP "Enhanced" bolts. I also have an AIM Ni B BCG.
My issue is chronic feeding issues with the (2) 6.5 weapons. The rounds hang up between the barrel feed ramps and the magazine feed lips, leaving a round stuck at an angle. The only way to clear it is to force the magazine out, which is sometimes difficult because the feed lips have to flex to allow the round to free up. The projectile is typically about halfway up the feed ramp.
I have both Magpul and IMI magazines, the result is about the same from both of them. It is pretty much the same result from the 1st or the 10th round from the magazine.
The 7.62 has never failed to feed, best as I can recall. Both of the 6.5's exhibit the same symptoms. They all shoot magnificently, I'm just tired of manually loading a dinged-up round that must be wrestled from the chamber. The forward assist does nothing, these rounds are lodged in there pretty well.
I've been shooting Hornady "American Gunner" 140 gr. and Hornady "Match ELD" 140 gr. and the results are nearly identical. Actually, the polymer-tipped ELD rounds may work a bit better, but they are probably a 50%-60% FTF while the jacketed-tip is more like 60%-70% FTF.
I'm thinking I'll try polishing the ramps, and see if that helps.
I really like these barrels, from every perspective except as described above. I'm willing to make any adjustments necessary to get these weapons lined-out.
Any wisdom you can impart?
