[ARCHIVED THREAD] - THE JAKL THREAD (Page 2 of 28)

Quoted: X100. I never really had any interest in that round UNTIL I saw the reviews of the JAKL on YT from SHOT, then after researching what's out there for both subs and supers and the piston goodness of the JAKL, I've changed my mind. I shoot everything suppressed and NEED the JAKL to have suppressed settings separately for subs and supers. My WANT is to have the hand guard end near the muzzle, purely aesthetics but I don't like the barrel sticking out as far as it did on the model at SHOT. I hope I'm not alone there and that request doesn't end up on the editing room floor. As to twist rate, I'll leave that to the experts, for 5.56 1x8 is my fav. I just want max accuracy with both subs and supers. Hate they’re making 300 blackout first. A 5.56 with 1/8 twist would be awesome. Blackout is a nice toy, but no interest. |

Quoted: You've convinced me and a shitload of people that haven't commented that this platform will be well worth waiting for??. It might be worth shit- we don't know yet. If it's aimed at serious users who wish the KAC S.L.I.C.K. made it to market, and it performs (Accuracy, reliability, durability, ergos, etc) as one would hope, then they will have a fucking WINNER. If it's aimed at joe sixpack "muh truck gun" who misses his Keltec Sub2000 that got stolen last week, and the mini-Draco before that... and they gen-it-out to fund R&D, plus parts break, and things don't work... then that will be SAD. |

Switch the mag and chamber a new round- and you just turned something with terminal ballistics similar to 30-30/ 7.62x39 into something totally different that runs as quiet as an MP5 with a good supressor. That's a god damned magic trick. JAKL should live up to the above- 100% serious, no bullshit. You can wait for the 5.56, and it will just give you more time in life to enjoy your hearing while you still have it- because it's still going to be loud suppressed. Also 5.56 suffers a lot going short. |

1) Awww man, you just crushed 'muh truck gun' dreams. Seriously though, PSA has an opportunity to take the 'common use' mantra the CEO stated to another level, 2) DON'T LET US DOWN PSA! 2) Seconded. |

Any updates on how the Jakl is progressing? Do you have working (firing) prototypes yet, and have you settled on a twist rate for the 300 blk barrels? ETA; I know it hasn't been that long since it was announced at SHOT, but speaking for myself it was the most interesting thing I saw and I (and I'm sure many others) would love to know how things are going. |

Not sure if this has been covered but I have a suggestion for the JAKL gun/upper. I understand why the handguard is at a shorter length to easily allow easy access/adjustment to the gas system. This is probably too late in the development of the gun but I'd rather see more handguard real estate instead of such ready access to that switch. I will shoot mine suppressed basically 100% of the time. My perception is that people will not actually be switching the gas system back and forth that often; more likely it'll be people basically shooting always suppressed or always unsuppressed. Could be wrong on that, but I'd rather have more area for lights, lasers, etc... since the gas system will be "set it and forget it" for me. We all probably have something or could easily make something (a small box end wrench or a stick with a notch in it) which would allow tuning the gas adjustment from the front of the gun reaching back under the handguard. Regardless, I'll be purchasing a 300 BLK JAKL upper as soon as they are available; I'd just like to see more handguard up front if at all possible. Something like 1" back from the muzzle would be my preference. Thanks!!! |

I'm hoping for a long handguard (right up to the muzzle device) with a flash can up front on the 5.56. Yeah but if you can’t be cool the only option is to look cool. Decidedly uncool. Everyone is going to want to run this suppressed. The obvious choice is to put a cheap A2, and let folks buy the $75 mount of their choice. IF PSA wanted to really shake things up, they would offer it with a PSA-made aftermarket ASR mount, as I believe that the design is open source... I know there is a BE Meyers ASR device. This could deliver additional cost savings and make JAKL look even more attractive. Anyone who designs even a $40 ASR mount that works and is perfectly in spec on every unit will sell every one they make, and still enjoy multi X markup. HOWEVER, this would be a high risk move... and there would be NO room for failure. If failure occurred here, there would be no tolerance for "Gen 2" for someone who just destroyed their silencer. No offense, but I'm not sure if they're on that level. EDIT: If there happens to be any interest here- the old SWR ASR A2 Flash Hider is highly desirable, and wouldn't be too hard to pull off, I would think. |

Isn’t most of the issues with a suppressor making sure the barrel muzzle threads is concentric? |

@PalmettoStateArmory I too believe an ASR muzzle device for $40 would sell like crazy. It's probably worth it's own thread but no kidding, that's a product line that could use an affordable option injected into the market. Between existing SiCo products that have a big foothold on the suppressor market, and the abundant use of the design for Form 1 suppressor builds, it's widely used and well established. If Palmetto State Armory thinks they could even remotely consider doing it and they want to know how much volume they could expect, they should reach out to JoeBobOutfitters.com and ask them just how quickly they sold out of the Blackhawk branded ASR mounts. Blackhawk had contracted with SiCo to sell Blackhawk branded SiCo suppressors that worked with the ASR system. Blackhawk apparently turned out pallets of mounts that didn't get to distributors before the hearing protection act fell apart and the Las Vegas shooting happened. Joe Bob's bought up everything Blackhawk had from their suppressor mount items once Blackhawk shut the silencer line for pennies on the dollar and then blew them out on their website. Everything ASR related was gone in less than a week. The direct thread units that were unique to one line and a handful of 22LR suppressor adapters are still on the site but everything else was priced well and sold quickly. |
|
Quoted: If Palmetto State Armory thinks they could even remotely consider doing it... IF they even attempt, they should outsource production to someone with high quality who can pull it off. As I said- nobody is going to be lining up to buy "Gen2" after "Gen1" destroyed their silencer. It is a good "what else" thing that could force folks to take notice. Somewhat along the lines of: 1) Throw an ambi selector in the box 2) Throw an ambi mag release in the box 3) Throw a pair of QDs in the box 4) Drop down option for suppressor mount 5) Drop down option for MBUS or MBUS PRO They have to be items of good quality though. All the best PSA offerings come from using their huge buying power to deliver what people want at a good price. |

This is exactly what I've been waiting for. I've looked at the folding stock adapters and have been waiting for a system that can b fired while folded. There are a couple of companies that are apparently developing this but only one has a 1913 adapter for the brace and it doesn't seem like the company is active. I've considered 9mm carbine/pistols but I can't justify the price, even for the Stribog. The BRN-180 is a nice upper too but I don't like the reciprocating charging handle and the upper is the same price as a complete JAKL. I just finished a parts-list yesterday for a pistol build based on the PSA 8.5" upper and was going to convert it to a buffer-less BCG. I can't believe I just saw this thread, totally missed the shot show release. The only thing I don't like is the handguard. I love the mono idea for strength and repeatable zero for the BUIS and lasers but I prefer the handguard was longer and wider to allow a flash can/linear comp/suppressor to tuck under it. |

Have you ever tried a rail that’s 2” id? Really impractical |

Quoted: Have you ever tried a rail that’s 2” id? Really impractical Let me be clear, having the accessories tuck in the rail would be preferable but it is not necessary and most flash cans fit inside any rail but the few pictures I've seen of the JAKL appear very narrow. This might not be the case in real life. The MCX has two rails options for those who run suppressors as do many AR manufactures like Daniel Defense, BCM, Geissele, Midwest, etc. I don't think it should be the standard but it would nice if there was an option. I don't see how it is possible and I prefer the narrow profile the JAKL has (takes up less space when packed). I saw one interview where PSA said they were talking with suppressor manufactures to make one with a more rectangular profile to match the JAKL. |

Sorry if this has already been covered, but will the JAKL upper be compatible with Brownell’s BRN-180 Lowers? I just pre-ordered one and think the two parts would make a great combo. @PalmettoStateArmory? They have the pic rail built into the back of the receiver, and in the photos the JAKL looks like it may not be compatible with this. |

ETA: I just watched some of the SHOT videos and can confirm that the the pic rail adapter the JAKL comes with is just an adapter and doesn't appear to be required for function of the upper. You should be fine just not using it if your lower already has the rail. |

Quoted: With us coming out with different calibers, it will just depend on the caliber. Thank you, Josiah Quoted: Quoted: dumb question, but what is the threading on the barrel? 1/2x28" or 5/8x24"? With us coming out with different calibers, it will just depend on the caliber. Thank you, Josiah |

Quoted: Anyone else hoping this isn't another acr situation. That's what this gun feels like. Folding stock. Forward charging handle. |
|
Quoted: The difference is that the JAKL's price, and it just being an AR upper, mean that the failings of the ACR wouldn't really be a big deal with the JAKL. Unless they have made changes since SHOT the upper is proprietary, maybe you ment lower. The original price from Magpul for the Masada was going to be something like $700-800. It wasn't till Bushmaster/Remington got a hold of it that it more than doubled in price. |
