Dillon has an upper block for AR15 and AR10 for around $60. That will work for me, I don't need anything special for lowers. PlastiXrevolution.com has something that looks ok as well.

Just to hedge the hand guard thing I just ordered up a upper, dam you mark, between the daughters braces and the larue goodies that keep showing up my visa is getting a workout this month.
Went with a 6.5 creed just in case it outperforms the 260,I like options Pete |

Heres some pictures showing how much clearance I get. Ive always been weary of ball-headed drivers because they tend to strip screw heads. Turns out "you get what you pay for" holds true in the tool world too. These Wera bits work perfectly. Even at that angle, the torx has enough "bite" to hold the driver in the air (picture). https://i.imgur.com/OuO1PrG.jpg https://i.imgur.com/eOJCAsh.jpg View Quote |

View Quote Hopefully while Mark is making these kits available, he will make one extra bolt for my ultimate parts kit.. Ordered it June 2nd...... Really only need the bolt, but it never hurts to have the other parts as well. I guess in the mean time I need to get the locking lugs on the current bolt in my LaRue "Field Grade" barrel build turned down from 3.14 to 3.07..... This build is currently the only build I have that is not completely reliable. That said I am in the midst of an AR-47 build so that may change. Especially since I am building it out of mostly leftover parts. (LaRue MBT, CMMG gas piston setup from a 5.56, .458 Socom stripped upper, Colt ejection port door and barrel nut).... |

Order in, sure was nice to drop $600 off it with that BuilAR gift card.

I was just checking the status of another order and noticed the Tranquilo I ordered on 8/29 is arriving at my FFL/SOT today.

ordered mine today (16" FDE 7.62)
When I called in the order (had to over the phone to use the BuildAR cards) he said it wouldn't be shipping "for a couple of weeks" Just in case y'all were curious also - my first 7.62 rifle. Can't wait. |

I wouldn't run a bunch of 35 year old bi-metallic surplus ammo through my gun.
I'd also get kicked off the range for shooting steel with it. ("Sparks and fire") |

("Sparks and fire") View Quote The local range I go to has a couple gongs at different ranges. So it's fun to ring em and I don't need super expensive match stuff to do that. That's what I like to do with my bulk 5.56 stuff I've bought over the years anyway. I have some polymer reactive and bowling pins too. So I was just wondering if 7.62 was much different in that regard or if it's not worth buying cheap for these. |
|
I have never run the Malaysian 7.62, but the 5.56 I had a couple of decades ago wasn't too bad.... The worst thing I've run through any of my .308's has been PMC Gold or Winchester White Box 3031 NATO....
There is an M14 website that has a good list of .308 ammo to avoid due to poor quality control.... You are a lot less likely to blow up your AR with bad ammo than an M-1A or M-14. I don't have a link here on the iPad or I would post that for you. I believe it is M14Forum.com but no guarantees..... |

I'd have no issue running that, barrels are much cheaper than ammo,I've got two ammo boxes of that coming my way.brass cased and cheap as shit the way I like my ammo.
It is no worse than running green tip thru a 5.56 and I don't see where mark says you cannot or should not. Pete Quoted:
For ammo in one of these - is there anything wrong with buying an ammo can of bulk stuff for banging 8" steel out to 200-300 yds? For shooting groups and putting it through its paces I'd get the good stuff. Even have a local guy that does custom loads (I don't load myself). But am I missing something regarding the cheap bulk stuff like this: https://www.AR15.Com/media/mediaFiles/170073/IMG_1698_PNG-302821.png (Out of stock but I'm using it as exhibit A) View Quote |

But for banging steel and making the reactives react it doesn't seem to make much difference to me. |

The rail mounting screws get 35 inch pounds; the muzzle device is 35 foot pounds with Loctite 294 and shims, not a crush washer, and the gas block set screws are 30 inch pounds with blue Loctite. My preference is blue on the GB screws, but your could also use red. I wouldn't use rocksett due to the small size of the set screw and the sheering force needed to then loosen the screw. ETA - I use shims on all my muzzle devices as they will hold suppressors. View Quote |

260 Rem or 6.5 Creedmoor
Looking for opinions on which one to get. Can't really find much to justify which one, aside from a greater amount of available ammo for the Creedmoor. |

When I originally placed my order It was for a 260 because the choices were 308 or 260. I have 2 Armalite 308s and I wanted something different. Then the 6.5 option was added. I went back and forth about switching to 6.5 Creedmore. I stopped at my local gun store and they had 6.5 CM ammo but no 260. I changed my order to the 6.5 and then ordered a 308 too. Now I just need more LT104 mounts. I should have ordered more when they were on sale. View Quote |
