From my understanding these were originally destined for South Africa and the State Dept rejected the export permit denying the sale. View Quote |

AU bought 200 of the rifles from Colt initially. Then there were 150 or so rifles that were supposed to go to South Africa that got cancelled and AU bought those too. So, the total numbers were vaguely 350ish. Nobody is trying to pull a fast one. This is simply AU buying Colt excess inventory and giving us peasants another great deal.
The carbines may be selling slow due the mix of cerakote and black parts. It also seems everyone is buying the 'U.S. Property' marked carbines which probably has your normal pool of buyers here tapped out a bit. |

@AK_Nightcrawler
I didn't "read" it anywhere. I overheard the owner talking to the factory guys at Colt when these rifles were offered to him. They aren't marked anywhere nor will they letter this way but sometimes there are back stories as to why we are offered stuff Colt wants to unload. |

I put in an order for one of these as well. It should be here Tuesday.
On paper, it appeared to be nothing more than a standard 6920 with an FDE cerakote job at an unbeatable price...then I started worrying that I missed some fine print or SKU or something and I was going to be getting an Expanse or some other lesser model. I'm glad I found this thread. It seems it is, in fact, a killer deal on a 6920. I’m looking forward to getting it in! |

I'm struggling with leaving it NIB or putting an FDE SOPMOD stock on it, new handguards and shooting it.

How is the fit and finish? My Trooper left a little to be desired. View Quote |

How much of the inside is ceracoated in the upper and lower - is it ragged ? and is the whole inside milled out - in conjunction with the selector thing ?

I’ll snap and upload some more pics.
I’ll echo that the take down pins are TIGHT. I haven’t seen any noticeable blemishes on mine...but I generally don’t look too hard. Assuming it runs as it should (which I’m not worried about), it’s an absolute steal at $700. |

Did Knights Armament make an FDE version of the RAS? Disregard...I see I can buy FDE rail covers on the KAC site.

Mine was delivered today. I'll repeat what others have said... The upper is on there tight, it was a chore getting the takedown pins to move.
I'm not a big fan of FDE, and the only reason I bought it was because it was cheap for a Colt. But now that I have it in my hot little hands, I think the two-tone looks pretty sharp. I'll probably put a FDE Magpul handguard on it, and a black Magpul stock. Overall, I'm happy with it, and I'm actually thinking about buying a second one. |

More pics. Mine is absolutely slathered in protectant. I cleaned it up some tonight but CLP and Hoppes Elite were both just leaving cloth fibers all over everything. Might have to break out something a little more aggressive to cut through the gunk. https://i.imgur.com/r5i7BaM.jpg https://i.imgur.com/QKT4cOo.jpg https://i.imgur.com/7D1xJ7X.jpg https://i.imgur.com/mSoyqlB.jpg https://i.imgur.com/WiyFAET.jpg View Quote |

I was just about to ask if anyone had pictures. Impressions? Does it look like it was dragged behind a truck like other Colts? I like the color contrast. View Quote |

wyomingnick, the answer is just a couple of posts above your question.

Quoted: Looks like “auto” marking was removed from the right side. Interesting. View Quote That would mean it either gets the auto stamp and then the fire/semi at a different time and the auto got milled off, it was never stamped auto and the mill mark is from something else, or it was going to be marked different from what most select fire Colts are and then got milled off. |

Colt made an FDE model a couple years ago for the 6920, everything but the barrel may have been FDE.
think it was this one but didn't think it was 2013, but time flies so fast for me these days. http://www.birminghampistol.com/?product=full-flat-dark-earth-receiver-magpul-colt-m4-carbine-le6920mp-fde-223-fde |

Yeah, I feel your pain. They keep running sales on this odd-duck stuff and I keep buying. I bitch and moan about not having a good factory SP-1 in my collection yet I have spent about $2500 with AU recently.

Quoted: LOL. I am not sure Colt cares about the blemished rifles that come off their production line. Don't get me wrong, I love my Colts, but I do wonder why it is okay to produce rifles with blemishes, and say it is character? I realize that some of the current rifles come from the military line, so soldiers are not concerned, but I still wonder... If you want a fighting Gucci rifle, get a KAC. |
