whats the laws on this? does it have to be locked up and unloaded? thanks.

If you have a Washington CPL or one recognized by Washington state, you can have a loaded pistol on you or sitting out of sight.
You can not have a loaded rifle (loaded magazine in rifle or round in chamber at any time).
Other situations, I'm not sure.

Laws don't seem to matter in WA anymore.  Do what you want, OP.

If you're gonna come to or through WA a lot, just stop in to one of the LE agencies and apply for a CWP. This is a "shall issue" state, it just takes money and fingerprints.
