A dam has collapsed in the Midland area.  Evacuations south of 10 and west of the mall area.  We are sending equipment over to assist.  No more info right now.

I hope all our Midland area members are ok.

Let us know if we can assist.

It's going to be worse than '17 that's for sure. I pray for anyone living along the Tittabawassee and Saginaw rivers.

We're good here, about 5 miles north of the dam.  Lost power about 1845

This is gonna be bad.

Sanford dam is imminent failure.  Report is the dam is washing away on the west side toward the Sanford park.

I'm south of Midland several miles.  Traffic on the roads heading south toward M-46 have pick up significantly as Midland evacuates.  Locally, Swan Valley High School, Bullock Creek HS & Hemlock HS are evac centers.

Saginaw CO road commission expects to close roads over the Tittabawassee river to include Freeland Rd. Tittabawassee Rd and State Street Rd east of M-47.  I expect that will include M-46 (Gratiot Rd) as well.

Mid Michigan Hospital is being evacuated.

I've been through something like this before when I was a kid. You can expect power failures soon too.  Consumers Energy will be trying to protect the grid by shutting down effected areas.

Edit to add:
Smallwood dam failed also about 90 min ago.

M-30 bridge north of Edenville crossing Wixom Lake collapsed.
Curtis Rd bridge just south of Edenville is missing several sections.

ETA2
Whitmer has called up the Michigan National Guard.

The bridge on M-30 over Wixom is fucked. Wixom lake has emptied and it's headed downstream fast. I'm in the city of Midland, east side, flood maps show we should be good.

They just shut down 20 east of M30.  Our guys who are responding there are using 46 for now.

I don't think so this time.  Hope your are prep'd to bug out in a hurry if need be.

Midland is expected to be under 9 feet of water.

An acquaintance just sent a message that you can't see the roof tops in downtown Sanford.

My mom and step dad love between edenville dam and sanford dam on sanford lake. They bugged outa few hours ago. When they left there were huge trees, sheds, boats and all sorts of stuff moving in the water. Water was moving quickly. Thankfully their home is about 20ft above the normal water level. People on the other side of the lake will not be so lucky. They also lost power before leaving.

The Tittabawasee is supposed ot crest 4 foot above it's record high.  Crazy

Our crew that was heading over to help them had to turn back.  They were unable to cross the river and get to Midland.

Poseyville Dyke failed

Not good for people living southwest of Midland

Word this morning.

M-20 bridge in Midland had water over the top.
One bridge along US-10 at Sanford is gone.
Poseyville Rd dyke failed about 6:40am.  Mandatory evac for residents to the south & west of Midland city.

eta:  A few minutes ago, officials in Midland called this a 500yr flood.  For reference, the 1986 flood was called a 100yr flood.  As I recall that left 8 feet of water spread through Midland.

Crazy.  This rain, around us anyway was not as bad as a 2017.  They must have gotten hit harder north of Midland than we did.

Just spoke with my mother this morning and she has returned to her house on Sanford lake (they are on the West side about 1/2 mile north of US-10 bridge).  Her house sits about 25-30 ft above the normal water level and estimates the water rose about 15 ft.  No power currently at her house, but she said they have telephone poles in her back yard so not a surprise.  Lots of debris in their yard including trash bins, oils drums, furniture, telephone poles and trees.  The east side of the lake is lower lying where she is and from what they can tell there is major damage on that side.

Another major concern is the Dow Chemical plants that are downstream and still below a remaining dam.  If debris and major flow/flooding reaches the plants there could be some catastrophic consequences.  I grew up in Midland and have seen a few floods that covered a bit of downtown.  Nothing remotely close to this.

Prayers out for our Michigan posters and all Michigan residents. Floods are very dangerous and destructive. Please be careful.

Take Care

My uncle was asked to come back and work dispatch for the fire department in Thomas Township and they had to rescue a 90 year old lady that didn't want to leave her dogs but she called when the water was waist deep and rising.

There is no Bullock Creek fire rescue. Unless you're in South Carolina.

Perhaps you mean Midland Township Fire Department? ;)
