I asked in GD, but then thought here may be better,,,,,My wife and I ride can-am 4wheelers. This year we want to go ride in Wisconsin. We pull a 5th wheel camper toyhauler, for a total of about 50 ft long with truck. Any riders here recommend a place to go and camp, and ride for a couple days? We want trails, not straight up hills and stuff. Some hills are wanted of course, just not the crazy stuff. We are not young people. We ride 4x4 machines. We plan on early sept. Any rules for out of state permits?
Be nice if river or lake near too. Our canoes fit in the toy-hauler with the 4wheelers. Xposted in hometown |

I can’t speak about places to camp but Black River falls is the “touristy” ATV spot up here.
Sawyer county and surrounding counties are also ATV/snowmobile heaven with a ton of trails. Specifically around Hayward. Rocky twisty trails, seasonal logging roads, gravel fire roads, and lakes/water everywhere. Passes, you can buy an out of state annual for $35 or a 5-day for $20. WI ATV Permits You’ll also see green signs when entering counties/towns saying “roads are ATV routes unless otherwise specified.” It’s blatant what roads aren’t, marked with a big white “No ATV/UTV traffic” sign. |

You'd have to look up campgrounds, but the Oconto/Marinette county area has a ton of trails. There is an old rail bed from southern Oconto county that goes north a long ways with plenty of trails off it. A lot of roads are open to atv/UTV as well. Once school starts back up I'll be riding in there a couple times a week.

I'd say Northern Oneida/Vilas, the Southern Oneida/Langlade/Lincoln area, or the Clark/Jackson/Eau Claire county area.
All have nice trail systems, access to food/bars/groceries, and decent options for camping or rentals. Also, in those areas most municipalities have allowed ATV and UTV traffic on town roads, and most of the counties allow it within reasonable distances. |

place called "shell lake ATV campground"
never been there but ridden by it plenty of times can go norht from there and a lot of signs and maps right there at the trailhead at campground most smaller towns will allow at least some atv use on streets. note that state highways run thru these towns and generally off limits cept to cross... just look for the sgreen signs that say ATV route. gotta watch out as some folks got crabby and blocked the trails thru their property. but not an issue on "main" trails sometimes those will make you take back roads for workaround--which sucks cause they are just regualr roads. be careful as some will show as "open" on maps, but they are only open in winter for snowmobiles note i am NOT a pro on this...just some ideas there is a small "ATV park" east of turtle lake too... not worth driving from OH for, but is a neat stop |

My family cabin is not too far down the road in Spooner. It will connect you to both the Wild Rivers and the Tuscobia trail systems. Both will lead you to various small town stops with food and beverages along their way. Shell Lake itself is a nice area, with all the amenities I think you are seeking. The Black River Falls area hosts a network of good trails as well. There's lots of lodging in the area but I haven't utilized any of them personally and I haven't spent a lot of time there but can tell you it offers a good mix of riding. Many of their trails are one way and have governed speed limits in some areas. |

We used to go to Dyracus in Adam’s county. Fun atv/dirt bike park. Cty trails all around the park too. It’s been a while but I heard they added on to the atv park for utvs.

I'm not super familiar with the county trails as they're not two wheel friendly....but there are a lot of trails around there. I've never ridden them, but up in Price County there are a ton of ATV/Snowmobile trails that we used to walk along while deer hunting. Lots of very scenic areas up there too. I also haven't ridden by Black River Falls, but I know a lot of people that have and go every year. |

Some nice trails around Tomahawk.
Personally, I'd hit the UP. |

Later in September would be a bit better for color. Bayfield County is prime that time of year.

Iron county can be nice. But a lot of it is dusty ass railbed and road running.
Stay far away memorial day weekend though. |

It's not to crowded, obviously holiday weekends can get busy. 4 th of July is fun , especially hitting the parade in Gay. |

The biggest ATV/UTV club in the area is named "Landover"...easy to see where that name came from. Will you be full time voting residents, or is this a 2nd home purchase? Speaking of the paved bike trails all over that area, is it true they're paid for by a sur-tax on spandex pants and flashing LEDs? Don't get me started on the wolf issue.... I guarantee you that woman is packing now. Like most of us are. SSS |

Buy a canoe, a set of oars, an axe and a rake, if too much "noise" is the issue. And ban SNOWMOBILES! Don't be a hypocrite, ban it all... and watch the town die, or become a "leftist" hippy enclave. I don't how the people who live on or near lakes can even hear ATVs with those jet-skis running around all summer. I don't live on a lake, but I cannot walk 1/2 mile in a straight line without getting my feet wet.... there's a lake in every direction. I have to listen to them all summer long. Quiet in the northwoods? LMFAO Also need a state & county tax on spandex, stupid looking "aerodynamic" helmets, and flashing LEDs... so the bicyclists can pay for the blacktop on all those bike trails. And register bicycles for use on public property and require trail passes for bike trails, with yearly fees just like snowmobiles, boats, and ATVs. Even fishermen & hunters need a "license", so why are the other "silent sport" people given a pass and free use of public resources? |

I'll have to agree with you on the Harleys. Things are as loud as my Camaro with the headers open was, but that's fine - they're Harleys. The ATV/UTVs are, for me anyway, a PITA. Seems like every County or Town road is now an ATV route. Where they are posted 35mph for ATVs is a waste of signage. They fly through stop signs and are becoming just as much of a hazard as the horse & buggies. Not to mention the number of little kids that are ramming around on them. Maybe after the accident toll starts to pile up, they'll have second thoughts. I'm not anti-ATV, but just think they have their place and tooling down county roads isn't one of them. I'm thinking they'll wear out their welcome just like the irresponsible snowmobilers have caused a lot of land owners to cut off access. Holy crap, I think I'm becoming an old curmudgeon. I
I do wonder how the northern towns survived before ATVs and snowmobiles? Probably had more business from people who wanted to get away from all the noise and hoopla and just do some fishing, hunting, camping and relaxing. Now they're going out of their way to import noise and dingalings. Might be time to turn back the clocks a little. |
