As the title says, what can you tell me about the Pecos/Monahans area?

I potentially have a job opportunity there and I know nothing about Texas.

Thanks for your opinions,
Derek

It's different, that's for sure.

Absolute beautiful areas intersected with oil fields and all that goes with that.

Thanks for the insight. I will definitely be trying to get out there so that I can check it out.

I just spent 6 days in Pecos.

As one of those Texans that loves Texas, I just didnt dig on Pecos.  There wasnt a tree in sight, thus the wind blows hard.  The dirt is very powdery, thus when the wind blows, so does the dirt.  It was damned cold, but I knew it would be.  In fairness I was only supposed to be there 3 days but my transmission developed problems and I had to wait on the mechanic, so I was in a bad mood.

On the plus side the mountains arent too far away, and the sunsets are pretty awesome.  Monahans has the Sand Hills State Park and a meteor crater.  There is a decent little titty bar in Lindsay, Texas, right outside Pecos.  The front of it is a mobile home.

Pecostan TX.

If you’re single and the job pays enough to make a major life change then do it. Otherwise steer clear.

I'd check cell coverage with your current provider. A lot of dead spots out there.

I'll add that the roads in the area are not in great shape, once you get off the interstate.  Lots of OnG companies have started using sand for fracking, so there are tons of overloaded sand trucks fucking up the roads and generally driving like entitled Tesla owners.  Summers are pretty brutal.

I spent 2016-2018 almost exclusively in Pecos, and 2021-present in Monahans. Monahans all day every day over Pecos. If for no other reason you're only 30-45mins from Odessa and then Midland.

If same area, I went to the Pecos run & gun. It was a great time. I want to try it out again someday.

Never been to either place, but:  you are close to Carlsbad NM and the caverns, to Las Cruces and Alamagordo.  Northish of Alamagordo is Cloudcroft, in the mountains.

You will be 3.5 or so hours from El Paso.  Some of I10 has 80mph speed limits posted.

You might or might not like the wind. I live in Amarillo, we get wind and dust also.  Pretty low humidity also.

It's an acquired taste.

ETA: You will need to supplement the Texas home with a Ruidoso/Cloudcoft cabin. It's a good package deal.

I spent the summer 0f 1969 in Coyanosa, TX between Pecos and Monahans on a crop dusting adventure living in a one bedroom trailer house behind the pump repair business.

Fortunately I flew a lot.

When I finally got home my buddies asked me what I did for fun in my spare time.

I told them i hunted and fucked.

They asked me what I hunted.

I told them something to fuck!
