Im contemplating the Best Effort option.  I am on 4G now, and get about 20mb down, 6mb up.  Ping is good. It’s functional 98% of the time, but slow as Christmas.

At the house site, we're down in the valley a bit.  4g is unobtainium.  Starlink is awesome.  But on top of the hill, in 4-5 bars of 4g, it has a slight advantage over starlink.  Not in overall speeds, but starlink cuts out for a few seconds here and there.  Only affects my zoom and team calls, but for those of us who work remotely, that is a requirement.

Im on a ridgetop but far from the 4g tower.  My connection isn’t fast, but latency is low and rarely disconnects.

So, how long are the disconnects and how frequent are they?

It varies for sure, but can be easily 4-5 times in a 30 minute teams meeting.  3-10 seconds each time.  Sometimes it's an issue, sometimes it's just annoying.

It's rarely noticeable in video or audio streaming as the buffer can handle 3-10 seconds.

It's not perfect for daily "work" but I'm not there everyday.  And it's an amazing improvement over hughesnet.  I'm sure it will get better as they increase the satellites.  It's a game changer for me.  Prior, I could not "work from home" there.

Here's a few pics of my setup.  It's about the best I can do without putting up a tall pole on the south side of the house.  While it tells me to expect issues, every 2 minutes, my VPN and RDP sessions are well within my acceptable levels.  Teams and zoom calls do buffer from time to time, but only.for a second or two and not much if any worse than my cable connection at home.

I topped 2 of the trees at 80' off the ground.  Still have one more to do.  It's certainly better now.  I think the last one will make a little more difference.

I’ve been using it for a couple of weeks now.

Mine seems to always want to angle due north.  I have a few big trees in that direction and has to put a 10’ mast on the roof.
(Lowes sells a 1-1/4’ structural steel pipe, and all mounting fittings that are inexpensive and perfectly fit dishy.)

I get no obstructions now. But im going to have to prune and down a few trees this spring.

I was a little miffed I had to buy an ethernet adapter separately.  But otherwise, pretty happy this far. It’s literally 10x faster than the 4G I was using.

Mine is still working great.  I average about 1-2 mins of obstruction per hour due to the mountain I am on (I can only pull it back so far facing north over the peak and there are trees up there).  Still more than good enough for 4k streaming, zoom video conferencing, Wi-Fi calling, etc.  super happy with it!
