I see that a Sportsmans Warehouse is supposed to be coming to Rib Mountain this summer. Wonder how that's going to pan out?

View Quote After what happened to Gander Mountain, I would love to see one open in SEWI. California SW was the only place I had that was stocked during the "flu", and SW Michigan has been a great place for reloading and black powder supplies. |

We had one near New Berlin. Didn't last long.

Used to be one in West Bend that did not last.
With Dicks and Gander going woke, Sportmans Warehouse might actually have a chance in that area. |

I'm guessing the West Bend & New Berlin one's got caught up in the bankruptcy reorg about 10-12 years ago like the GB one did. They've been expanding hard since the BassPro merger got cancelled.

Would be nice to get one here in Janesville. The old Gander Outdoor store is still empty.

I hope they expand in Wisconsin. Sportsmans Warehouse is my all time favorite sporting goods store. I stop at the one in Des Moines every chance I get.

I've never been to one, so I was just wondering about what kind of an operation they ran. Would be nice to have a decent place in central WI to go to.

One opens April 27th in Racine:

Are they buying an empty store or building a new one? We haven't been down there for a about a year & half (wife needed to see an eye specialist in Wausau in Oct '21), and there were a few former BIG stores that were empty. My wife liked to go to Gordmans, but they were closed up and gone when we went there last. |

Supposedly in the old Gordmans store at 226601 Rib Mountain Drive. Looks like they're planning their grand opening for June 8-10. 60,000 Sq. ft., so it should be a decent size. Hopefully they might have some specials going on - might be worth the trip.

View Quote Yeah, that's a big store. I've only been inside once. When our daughter lived in MN (2000-2021) my wife would drive out there to visit grandkids numerous times every year...I stayed home with the dogs, & went to work. She'd always make a stop at that Rib Mountain shopping area on the way back home part of her trip. She'd come home with stuff from Gordman's, Michaels, Old Navy and others (why I needed to stay home & work ). So on one trip she bought this table for our living room at Gordman's. 2 employees tried getting it into her Chevy Malibu, but it was a no go. So I had to drive down there to bring it home in my pickup truck. I found out that with a cresent wrench or 3/8" open end or socket, the legs could be unbolted in minutes, and it would've fit in her back seat . Gander Mountain was still open, so I went there & Fleet Farm too, stocked up on gunpowder & primers rather than pay hazardous shipping charges. IIRC, Gordmans was in between the Michaels and Old Navy stores... so going down there without the wife in tow will be impossible for me... |

They opened one in Racine on Wednesday, I was in there yesterday. Nice store!
As I was unexpectedly filling out a 4473 the store manager was telling me about the store they were going to open in the Wausau area. Hopefully the customer service stays the same as it was. It was refreshing to be in an establishment that didn’t want to just sell trendy clothing and coolers and call themselves a sporting goods store. I give the world’s worst Dunhams 6 months until they close their doors. |

Best news ever! Sportsman’s is the best, and I’ve missed it ever since the New Berlin one shut down.

Been looking forward to a new outdoor store in the area, what do they tend to carry? I'm assuming hunting gear and the like, but what sort of quality and brands?
|

Camping, fishing, shooting/reloading/firearms, hunting, footwear.
I didn’t look too hard at any “gear” per se but they carried. Fishing tackle was pretty good and they stock both St. Croix and Gloomis rods if that’s your thing, firearm wise I saw Beretta, S&W, Bergara, Daniel Defense, Ruger, Glock, Sig, Canik, etc.. I’ve been in a several different Sportsman’s and they all seem to vary a little bit. The one that was in New Berlin years ago was a really nice alternative to Cabelas/BPS. I was pleasantly surprised to see a lot of their in stock powder was $35/pound on average. Primers are still out of control everywhere. They’re not Scheels but they are pretty good imo. |

I went to the west bend store years ago. Nice place, I'd have frequented it more often if it were close to me.
Being in Dane county, I wonder if it's worth it to them to open one around here |

Had to go to Wausau today so I finally made it to the new SW store by Rib Mtn. Nice place with a lot of ammo, reloading supplies and related stuff. Couldn't find any screaming deals of any of the handful of guns I've been keeping an eye out for, but they had quite a few of others. Didn't know Henry is now making revolvers, but they had a couple there. I had to buy SOMETHING and couldn't pass up some Winchester 9m/m Service Grade stuff they had for $14.99 a box. I also noticed some .410 ammo there but didn't take a good look, other than notice the ammo supply there was pretty extensive. All in all, a nice store.
