This means you cannot carry a concealed weapon even with a permit?

How do you get from your house to a shooting range?

Um, welcome to July 1st of last year.

The 'rat majority destroyed Virginia's preemption laws,
allowing localities to enact their own bullshit restrictions.

The ban includes city buildings, public parks, city-owned recreation or community centers and any public street, road, alley or sidewalk.

That can absolutely not be constitutional.  Will be interesting to hear VCDL's position.

That was my thought as well scuba_steve. Restricting carry in govt. owned property has seemed to be ok but, this is an outright ban of carry altogether and I can not see that standing up in court.

This is actually idiotic AssPress spin on what the ordinance does. Cities and Counties CAN'T impose a ban as wide as the AssPress report suggests.

15.2-915 says: E. Notwithstanding the provisions of this section, a locality may adopt an ordinance that prohibits the possession, carrying, or transportation of any firearms, ammunition, or components or combination thereof (i) in any building, or part thereof, owned or used by such locality, or by any authority or local governmental entity created or controlled by the locality, for governmental purposes; (ii) in any public park owned or operated by the locality, or by any authority or local governmental entity created or controlled by the locality; (iii) in any recreation or community center facility operated by the locality, or by any authority or local governmental entity created or controlled by the locality; or (iv) in any public street, road, alley, or sidewalk or public right-of-way or any other place of whatever nature that is open to the public and is being used by or is adjacent to a permitted event or an event that would otherwise require a permit. In buildings that are not owned by a locality, or by any authority or local governmental entity created or controlled by the locality, such ordinance shall apply only to the part of the building that is being used for a governmental purpose and when such building, or part thereof, is being used for a governmental purpose. Any such ordinance may include security measures that are designed to reasonably prevent the unauthorized access of such buildings, parks, recreation or community center facilities, or public streets, roads, alleys, or sidewalks or public rights-of-way or any other place of whatever nature that is open to the public and is being used by or is adjacent to a permitted event or an event that would otherwise require a permit by a person with any firearms, ammunition, or components or combination thereof, such as the use of metal detectors and increased use of security personnel.

So that's as far as it can go.

Petersburg took it right to the limit: https://www.progress-index.com/story/news/2021/09/21/petersburg-council-bans-guns-public-spaces/5807817001/

But it doesn't do what the AssPress propagandist says.

"Makes you wonder if the Petersburg National Battlefield Park is a memorial site or a testament to day-to-day life in Petersburg."
