Hello, I'm looking to take a trip to Kansas to rabbit hunt for a few days.  I hear the area is second to none.  Looking for lodging that could safely accommodate a few hunters and their beagles.  Any leads or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.  We are coming from KY so the eastern part of the state would be best.

Kansas has very little public land (around 1% I believe).

Walk In Hunting is a possibility.  Also will depend on when you come.

People travel to Kansas to hunt all sorts of game. Deer, turkey, pheasants, quail, ducks, geese, coyotes, bobcats, etc. But rabbits? I’ve never heard of a traveling rabbit hunter. There are plenty of rabbits around, to be sure.

Get the public land atlas (I suggest using the OnX app). And you’ll see all of the publicly huntable land available. I do a lot of hunting on WIHA for upland birds.

Best of luck, friend! I hope you enjoy your time in our great state!

Definitely look at the walk in hunting map located here.

There are many wihas located all around the states.  I often kick up rabbits when I’m squirrel hunting, but not enough to entice me to go out “rabbit hunting”.  Maybe rabbit hunting behind dogs would be more productive?

Best of luck to you.

I did learn through my kids hunters safety this weekend that some WIHA in KS need an online reservation, to control number of people in said area.  IWIHA or Isportsman to register and login.....it was new info to me

KS has been doing this for several years.   In some cases it just tracks the number of people at the time, but the small "farmer bob lets people hunt his 80 acres" limits it to 2/day, even if they're only there an hour.  This is a pain since for us furharvesters we still have to check in but we have to check traps daily so anyplace with a hard visit limit we can't really utilize, not that many people are out at 5am in December.  I don't want to mess up someones hunt if I take up 1 spot of a 2/ppl/day plot limit checking traps.   Getting private land permission is getting more difficult by the year.   FWIW, I did notice in my AO this has really cut down on the number of vehicles in the parking areas during prime seasons.
