Soda.  If you say pop, we know you’re from the Midwest.

Most of the time I say coke.  But, I know it is wrong to say coke unless I want a coca cola.

I hear most people say soda.

So, like half the state's population?

Yes, I use the terms interchangeably and no one cares. We don't drink the shit, so it doesn't come up often.

Soda.  Or ask for a specific brand.

Back in Buffalo before I moved here we called it pop.
I don’t drink it much anymore and usually say coke or Pepsi

Call it whatever you want over here, no one I know cares enough to even judge or debate it.

I've lived in AZ, VA, OH, FL, and overseas. Which means my vocabulary is messed up. I use Coke (generic term, not brand specific), pop, and soda. I've also been known to use "cold drink" since my wife is from South Africa, and that's the term they use.

And my favorite coke is Dr Pepper.

I moved here when I was 7 back in 1988 from a Chicago suburb.  I said pop for the longest time but sometime around 20 years old, I started saying soda and now pop sounds so weird.

I always just order what I want by brand.  Coke, Pepsi, Barqs Creme Soda, Sprite, Mountain Dew etc.  No problems yet doing that out here.

But growing up for me it was Pop.  Then when I moved to Texas it was Soda or a "Coke" and what version of "coke" I wanted depending on the restaurant.  That was strange asking for a Coke Mountain Dew or a Coke Pepsi

Most people here say soda but I will not deny my Midwest roots and I still call it pop. Sometimes people look at me like “wtf are you talking about?” And I respond “soda pop” and they’re like “ohhh” and probably think I’m a weirdo.

It's soda.  My wife is from Ohio. Took me about five years to get her to stop calling it pop

They most certainly do NOT say pop in PA, it is soda.
Map is epic fail.

The correct term is soda.
Soda is the correct term everywhere in the country - there are just a lot of stupid people in this country....

Map says "highest percentage reported by state" which could be as low as 34% since there are three choices.

Always been soda for me. And then there is the great gravy sauce debate. Bottom line is call it what you want ,everyone knows what it is and knows it by all names . Then there is the Motor oil engine oil thing ,then magazine vs the clip thing ,and on and on.

You're right: there are a lot of stupid people: those that think "soda" is the definitive term. "Soda" also refers to soda lime.
