Does anyone here know if there's anything in the NC building code that specifies a required "workspace" requirement for electric water heaters?  I ask because I'm thinking about enclosing mine behind "double doors"

Attachment Attached File

I know about the workspace requirements for electrical panels so I'm trying to factor for that to see if Location 2 is viable or if I'm forced to go with location 1.

As long as you have 3' clear space to access electrical components safely and room to replace them one day you should be ok, seems like the double doors being open would provide this. Check installation manual for any additional requirements.
