Visiting our son in Phoenix next month.

We are going to drive up to Monument Valley one day and spend a night.

Any thoughts on a good place to stay relatively close?

Thanks.

Gouldings lodge has some nice rooms last time we were there and they also have some tiny home rentals. Also check out The View hotel.

A little off the beaten path is Mexican Heat with a hand full of hotels. Less pricey then directly at the park.

Stayed at the Mexican Hat Inn a few months ago. Great way to see and get pictures of sunrise/early light around the Forest Gump site and the monuments from a distance. Hotel backs up to the San Juan River and they have a rustic sitting area overlooking. Area is mostly dry so take any adult beverages with you. The hotel/ restaurant  at the bridge has a bar.

Booked an "apartment" at Gouldings.

The View was sold out.

Thanks again for the help.

yeah, sitting out there, overlooking the land, with your favorite beverage would suck.

FYI, if you plan on drinking to the occasion.. The Navajo Nation is dry, so be discrete if you bring alcohol.(UT is weird about alcohol too, AZ dont care)  Ive read the hotels do not care if you bring your own wire or beer and stuff... but just sayin.  Same with firearms.. interstate highway driving through, no problems, but you turn off the highway, each nation has its own gun laws.. and usually not in the favor of travelers passing through should their presence be noticed for whatever reason.  Again, discreet, but definitely check the local laws.

If nothing else do the drive-through tour of the monuments near the visitors center. I think it is about a 20-mile round trip and you get right next to some of the bigger monuments and movie sites too. Goulding's has a nice little store just up the road too and things are of course more expensive but nice if you need something.

Stayed at the Goulding Lodge apartment for our one night up there.  It was fine.

Ate dinner at their restaurant. Tried the Navajo fry bread.  Delicious.  Would not recommend for the low carb guys.

Went up to the Forrest Gump area the night we arrived.

Drove the loop the next day.

Tried to have lunch at the View but their restaurant was only open for breakfast and dinner.

Had lunch at the Amigo Cafe in Kayenta.  Would recommend.

Weather was perfect.

Thanks for the lodging suggestions.
