Hello, I have a potential job opportunity with one of the big tech companies outside of Reno.  It would be a pretty substantial bump in pay for me.  I spent a day there after the interview driving around and saw some good, and some bad.  I'd like some input on quality of life and trends over the last few years.  What I've been able to gather is rents have gone up quite a bit, as has crime.  I don't seem to have too many options to live outside of Reno or closer to the job based off of what I find on Craigslist.  Casinos seem to attract a pretty seedy crowd, as do dispensaries.  Lots of homeless.  Gun laws were good but seems like they are starting to get bad. I lived in New Jersey for years so I've been through worse but it's important to me that I'm able to conceal carry and own NFA items.  How is the shooting culture? How is the culture in general?  Any input appreciated.  I am very happy where I am right now but they are offering a LOT of money.

Regardless of the city you will find better quality of life the further you are from public bus stops and section 8 housing. Less riff-raff==less problems. If you are looking at apartments as them how many section 8 rentals they have. And just looks at the place overall. Quality of care of the cars that are there. Bunch of derelict unregistered heaps with Exxon Valdez oil slicks under them is usually an indicator. Trashy people generally keep trashy cars regardless of how fresh the paint is in the complex.

If the job location is in the industrial complex east of Reno/Sparks, you can look in Fernley as well.  About equidistant from the complex, less expensive and less crime. It has been referred to as "Ferntucky" for some time though and once had the nation's highest teen pregnancy rate (lol).

Nevada was great for firearm laws, but the Dem's had both houses and an anti-gun Governor last legislative session and passed some stupid shit.  NFA is still ok and CCW's are easy to get, most Sheriffs are generally pro-gun.  I think the class may now be 8 hours of boredom with basic range qualifications.

You can look at Montage Condos for rent. Real Nice setup with underground parking. You don't have to deal with the locals. I have a rental there.

Look at Fernley. Sparks is ridiculous full and filling up more. Fernley has less government involvement. The drive is about the same. It’s not too bad when family visits and flys into Reno just plan on an hour drive to the airport.

Gun culture is good. Mayor is a twat.Local government is twats. Outdoor activities are plenty.

Where have you been? Outsiders have been treated like shit here for decades. The ‘tech companies’ making batteries haven’t changed anything except the number of people locals can blame for their problems. Nothing is ever Nevada’s fault. It’s always California even when the governor is from Wisconsin. Heard it the other day at work ‘I like him but I think he is from California.’ Nope.

So where did you end up finding a place to live?

Also look into Fallon. It’s a 50 minute (ish) drive to Reno and only a 30 minute (ish) drive to USA parkway. Prices are cheaper in Fallon. I’m renting a really nice 3 bedroom 2.5 bath, two story condo with a garage for 1,000 a month. Wallace reality is the company I go through if you want to look them up. Fallon has one of the best fire departments in the country and the police are great. More often than not they know everybody on a first name basis.
