Thanks OP for posting this.  I'm interested but after looking at the shooting standards, I'm a good ways away from being comfortable taking this class.  But the shooting standards TO take this class give me some good direction and great benchmarks to achieve while I practice.

I know there are some AAR's I did during a quick Google search. Might want to check those out to see how difficult the class will flow. I don't think it'll be all that bad. But as you say, ultimately you know your skill level. :)

Yes sir, i would.
I pulled the trigger too soon. I thought this would be a pistol class. My bad.

ETA: I think he is a living hero. The fights he has survived and won are incredible.
Round count is 550 rifle/500 pistol. Hard to find good training that covers both. Come on out!

I agree. That's not that much ammo for a full two day class. I like my reps!!!

My timer came in so I was able to shoot the standards over this past weekend.  I'm in.

Also - I'm about 2 hours away so I'll be getting a hotel.  Any recommendations or places to avoid in the area?

It's about 1:15 from me, so I'm not really sure. Usually sticking to the bigger name chains you should be OK though.

Didn’t want to post a new thread but on this topic I think I’m going to sign up for Field Craft Survival’s Carbine course at the end of March in DFW.

Got a reservation in Alvarado for Fri/Sat.  Thought about getting one just for Sat, but that would make a long day if I would drive in Sat morning.

Right on. That would be my suggestion as well. It would suck because you'd have to short yourself sleep the first night and then worry about making it to class on time. Looking forward to meeting some of you!

I know there have been a couple of inquires as to the rifle/pistol standards posted for the class. There will not be a "pass or go home" test at the beginning. The standards are a general idea of the level of where you should be shooting. i.e. I would not come to this class having never shot a rifle before. Rifle should be zeroed prior to class, there's nothing worse to drag a class down while the instructor has to work with folks to get rifles zeroed.

Once my timer came in and I shot the standards, they're not that bad.  I had misread a couple of times as total times and not split times, so it didn't end up being a big deal after all.  Now, if I can just see the target...

The class is still a go, but ideally it would be great if we could get another couple of people signed up. :)
