All this is in the news, but as an update. We all know that the Senate killed HB649 with the only Senators voting on the correct side of the issue being McGough, Murphy, and Sullivan. Rochefort is on my personal cut my nose off to spite my face do not vote for list for that. The version of HB2 that passed the House had all the language of HB649 in it. When HB2 hit the Senate, Lang and Pearl pulled the language of HB649 out of HB2 and replaced it with another version of the poor tax that the NH inspection system is. That version passed the Senate. The House nonconcurred and it went to a Committee of Conference. There, the language of HB649 was added back. Other things such as Ayotte's "bell to bell" cell phone ban was added as well. ******************************************************************************************************* Now, both the House and the Senate need to concur/adopt the changes. Given the makeup of the CoC, I'm cautiously optimistic there. I mean heck, the Senate President was on it. Does she really not want to pass a budget? Then Ayotte needs to sign and she's on record saying she'll veto it.  She may have disagreements with some of the numbers, but she gets other stuff like her cell phone ban and we get the poor tax inspection scheme removed.******************************************************************************************************** TLDR, the Committee of Conference report for HB2 needs to be adopted and Ayotte needs to sign. |

HB649 is technically still alive as it was rereferred to committee in the Senate. See the Senate roll call for those guilty parties. IF, and only IF HB649 comes back out in the Senate, I'll bet it will have Lang and Pearl's bullshit to continue the poor tax-just different. This will all be next year. Holy cow, not dead!!!  Mechanics on various SM outlets are big mad. I do get it. I really do, but the industry kind of brought this on itself. Future pushes by NHADA need to be watched for. ETA: as a note for discussions with those who think the sky will be filled with tires falling off vehicles, there are still plenty of laws on the books regarding equipment requirements on vehicles. |

Sure Donny, the 39 states without inspection have rampant vehicle crashes due solely to the state not having inspections.......right. Follow the money. He's getting $$ from somewhere to push this nonsense. I despise inspections and the grift that they are. Dealers, inspection stations, all thieves. |

So glad this is gone. Grew up in and learned to drive in CA and no inspections since the 70s. Huge state, lots of weather systems, and varrying legalities of drivers and funny enough never seemed to be an issue there. Glad this is going away, now get rid of front plates. |

 If you google search NH inspect .org, it will resolve to that above link which is hosted by an individual who is something of a liberty type activist. Besides the general court site, unfortunately the best place to get informed of stuff is various FB groups. Some of whom are annoying. | Lol, I just left last year’s sticker (expired 3/25) on and didn’t bother getting inspected. The cost of the unnecessary repairs would cost me a lot more than a ticket so I’ve been risking it. No stops or tickets so far! |

You’re still going to need the sticker (to be legal) until the emissions inspection goes away, probably in September of 2026. Just a heads up for those of you thinking that you’re not going to inspect - the only thing that happens in January is the safety part of the inspections is removed. Until the emissions part goes away….you still need your magic sticker. |

Inspections are no longer authorized and there is no more fee for the stickers. As of 31 Jan. Now the sticker may have been created by the Department of Safety's rule making authority(if that exists so as to affect this), but the funding would have to be adjusted. The September date in HB2 is a contingency deadline in case the NH Department of Environmental Services and the US EPA can't settle on an emissions plan. Our new emissions plan is supposed to be submitted to EPA within 180 of when the bill was signed(7/01). If the state and EPA agree, that September date can shift left. ********************************************** The emissions thing is something we're all waiting for. Plenty of states without emissions of any kind. Plenty of states with only specific municipalities and counties with emissions. Who knows what we'll end up with. Could be plug in, could be sniffer, could be whatever, could be nothing. |
