I want to let this group know that it is actually easy to buy an AR online and ship to a a legally.  My brother lives in Sacramento, so I did some research and found a number of online dealers.  The ship kits - lower to FFL, and upper to individual.  Then my brothers local gun shop installed the Jugfernaut device I to the lower.  When my bother out he upper an lower together, he had a lawful firearm in CA.  All above board.

Just look for a dealer who ships I to CA and understand s and is registered with California DOJ.  All lawful, and my brother has a great Geissele rifle now with the required modifications.

Can you share the name of dealer ?

There is so much misinformation on the internet and so much is blown out of proportion.

Still, there are real restrictions on configuration and magazines.
