I already tried calling their campaign number and all I ever get is a voicemail saying 'sorry we missed you' blah blah which I'm sure noone ever listens to.

So I get a flyer in my door the other day from the Huntsman campaign. Usually I don't even read any of it and throw them away but something really stuck out at me.

The main 'goal' of the flyer was to annouce that Huntsman wanted to grow the Utah economy by something like 60%. That sounds great on paper, but how?

Having lived down south here in UT long enough to realize that we have no real industry outside of tourism and retired people (and I'd like it to stay that way), this started sounding like a total Trojan Horse veiled under a 'good idea'.

The only feasible way I could see getting an influx anywhere near 60% over the next few years would be to give rediculous tax credits and all sorts of 'free' shit to companies wanting to escape their shit liberal states and in turn, bring their shit liberal state voting workforce with them.

I have had a very strong 'enjoy your visit, now go the fuck home' stance especially with people from California. Is this guy literally running on the hope of making a larger economy (which would effect most of us more negatively via quality of life than any benefit wed see from it) by running on a veiled promise to basically import 10s or 100s of thousands of liberals?

Or what am I missing?

You are missing nothing. He wants to Kalifornicate Utah.  St. George is a great example of greedy politicians looking at population growth = more money for them to spend.  SLC is a liberal poop hole and St. George is not a quaint little town anymore.  Those politicians that love the cosmopolitan liberal lifestyle can move to Kalifornia and wallow in their mire there.  Huntsman is one step behind Romney as far as I'm concerned,

Only socialists want to limit population growth. How much of Utahs growth is due to Utahs high birthrate...?-?

Every politician promises to "grow" the economy. Except maybe socialists.

Prior to the Covid situation, Trump was touting a "growing" US economy as a tenet of his re-election campaign.

Hughes promised to increase Utahs economy. Hughes made multiple promises to grow Utahs economy, "not just along Utahs Wasatch Front."

Cox... Same thing.

All of Utahs Republican Governor candidates promised to grow Utahs economy.

Huntsman promised a bombastic, impossible, over-the-top promise to grow it exponentially... I wonder where Huntsman learned that making bombastic promises would help in an election?

If you own a outdoor shop in St. George... Increased numbers of shoppers at your store is a good thing.

If you own an ice-cream shop in St. George... Increased numbers of vacationers is a good thing.

Your store increases sales, you increase the number of employees, everyone wins. The free and thriving market, and increasing economic activity is a good thing. For everyone. For the business owners. For the workers. For the Police who are funded through taxes. A free and thriving market is a good thing for everyone. That is why politicians promise to increase the economy if they are elected. Its why every Republican candidate for Utah Governor promised to increase the economy. That is why Trump used the pre-Covid market as a campaign tenet. Alongside Trumps signature Democrat-platform pro-criminal, "First Step Act." Its what politicians do.

St. George will never be the same. "Take the guns first" Democrats have run SL from since I can remember... And Utahs population is increasing over any other state... But it isn't all move-ins. "Utah is top state for population growth, but not just because people are moving here" Link

It looks like, from the polls it will be Cox or Huntsman. I hope it is Cox over Huntsman. Huntsman is a douche.
