Today is my last day in california. My job came to an end on monday so now it's moving time. I am relocating to Arizona. I will miss my friends, the weather and being a motorcyclist some of the canyon roads I used to frequent. The rest of life here, not so much.
I was born and raised here but it stopped being the state I grew up in years ago. I have spent all but my 3 years in the military here.
Much luck to you all staying behind.

Trying to decide on a freedom gift to myself. Tavor 7? FN FNX 45?  Ahhh, choices.

What part of CA are you leaving?  Where in AZ are you landing?

good luck in your new job/home/state

Where in AZ?

I kinda like the Tavor, been thinking about buying one and leaving it with family there. That way I can use it whenever I'm in town, which is quite often because of my job.

Im in kingman. Since i  found work here, have a home and family here it was a no brainer. Not exactly the most popular area buy I like the small town feel and the best part is , well it's not CA.

I have a Tavor Sar that i turned back to it's original configuration when the last ban went through. I have been keeping it here since i didn't want to neuter it.

Thank you. It was a decision I tossed around after finding out the plant was closing but I just couldn't stay an longer. I was fed up with the state and the high cost of living.

The job was my only reason for staying. Luckily I found work here in the same trade so that worked out well. The uhaul guy to the home depot  clerk that noticed all the moving boxes I was buying commented on the mass exodus they have been seeing. I hated to abandon the state I was born and raised in but I couldn't take it an longer. The closure and the severance package helped with the decision.

Truly, millions are leaving or have left.  Everyone I know who has retired has left the State.  Those who plan to retire, are planning to leave the State.  Many offered jobs won't come because of the situations out here.

IMO, it's the single party, socialist government we have here.  It is so bad, it is almost unconstitutional.  The State is run by a single, all powerful party.  There is no representation unless you subscribe to that party and their platform.  I do not know how or where this will end.

I forgot to add this.

I am also planning to leave when I retire.  I haven't picked the place yet but I know it is somewhere outside this State's borders.

I love it here , I just don’t like the politics and high taxes.

Wife wants to roll to somewhere like Wyoming but I don’t do well in the cold.

I would like AZ so we’ll  see what the next year holds.  I might retire early or open up shop when we move.

It’s hard to walk away from the good thing I have going.

I'm very familiar with Torrance - I worked at 190th/Crenshaw for years.

Sounds like you've been a part-time AZ already - congrats on converting to full-time.

Thanks

I worked on 190th and Pacific gateway drive. I'm surprised the plant lasted as long as it did.

Yes I have been visiting the area for  years. I tossed around the idea of moving years ago but it was hard leaving a good paying job.

I loved the weather and the canyon roads. But the politics, traffic and cost of living made me decide to look for work elsewhere after I thought it over. Being single made it easy for  me. I know for the married people from the plant closure it's not so easy due to family, schools ect.

I escaped too, OP.

We left Dec 21, were here Dec 23.

My employer let me move. They created a job opening when I moved from NH to CA as well. Luckily they like me. I originally asked about AZ but they said no. AZ projects aren't common enough to warrant a full time position so they just fly us in when they need us. It's a shame because my brother lives in Phoenix. They need a field engineer in TX though. So here I am. Free as a bird.

I pulled the magblocks out of my magazines and threw my bullet buttons away! Woo hoo!

Yeah I wish I could transfer out but no one can touch our retirement here.  The wife and I are looking at the earliest time frame to get out.  We want to head to the ocean, some where in the Alabama / Mississippi area

Congrats. I'm enjoying the freedom to buy what I want and go shooting without driving 2 plus hours.

I do miss the ocean but I'll trade that for the freedom I have here. So far I have been enjoying the move other than shitty internet service out here. I'll live with it.  You won't regret moving.

I decided on a FN as my first purchase. 10 minutes to buy. Not hours plus 2 trips. Damn, it's going to get expensive living here.

Congrats.  I got out in 2006.  My work is in the semiconductor design industry.  I was recently looking for work and it is amazing how many of those damn companies are still trying to staff in the bay area.

This is the second time I have lived thru a massive migration out of a City/State.

Both were caused by the same thing.

Both had the same consequences for the City/State.

Both had the same consequences for those who did not leave.

I have heard of this happening in other places, too.

When will people learn?

I’m not going anywhere because I make a ton of money in the Bay Area I wouldn’t make anywhere else.  I’m curious what my “consequences” are gonna be for staying.

Good on ya, OP.

I've been in So. Cal since '85, and hopefully can retire in another 10 years.

I bought a home in West Sedona and can't wait to live in AZ permanently.

State taxes will be going up.  Less producers and higher state and local government financial commitments are unavoidable.  I may end up being the only taxpayer in Orange County.  I'm not sure you're area in the Bay Area will get worse in the bad areas or much better in the good areas.

Thanks. Sedona is a nicer area than kingman but I'm not of retirement age so finding work was important and I didn't want to live in Phoenix.
I am enjoying my time here so far. My co workers are into guns and a couple are going to show me some  better shooting areas. I'm back on day shift so I can do some exploring on the weekends.
