Shaq sponsoring Dallas County gun buyback this weekend
By FOX 4 StaffPublished February 5, 2024 2:21PMDallasFOX 4

Ex-NBA star and licensed deputy Shaquille O'Neal will sponsor a gun buyback event in Dallas this weekend.

The Dallas County Sheriff's Office is hosting the event this Saturday, Feb. 10.

Owners who give handguns will receive a $100 gift card. Long gun owners will be given $125 gift cards.

The program is only available to Dallas County residents and there is a limit of 3 firearms per resident.

"I support Sheriff Brown’s initiatives; Sheriff is doing the right thing and keeping our communities safe," O'Neal said in a statement.

The Dallas County Sheriff's Office says Saturday's event is expected to be the first of many this year.

The event will be held at the Dallas County Sheriff's Training Academy at 8401 South Polk Street in Dallas.

It will be held from 9 a.m. to Noon.

Soooo... will they be running people off or you think it's ok to set up shop and offer to buy?

I think the last one was pretty open to buying.  This one looks the same, on a big road where you could tell people to meet you at Family Dollar across the street.

P.S. I really would like to see a 1st Amendment case if they shut down protestors.  Folks not trying to buy, just protesting with signs against government seizure (or telling Shaq to fuck off in this case).  Could be a bigger payoff than printing a bunch of autosears (modern problems.jpg)

No mention of how much money they have or how Shaq is sponsoring.

I wonder how quickly they will run out of money.

Maybe he will bring pizzas for people waiting in line.

Handgun frame is a firearm per the ATF, time to dump some stuff

To bad I already have plans all day Saturday. The article I read is that this is the first of many buybacks. I would gladly go with a sign on the sidewalk saying will pay cash for guns.

Looks like I might be able to go Saturday and I will have a stack of cash on hand. What do y’all think I should offer per firearm?

I’m curious what guys have been offering. Is $20 more enough to sway the sellers? I assume a bunch of the guns being sold to the buy back are junk anyway. Anyone worried that you might buy a stolen gun?

I think some of the enticement is that I will be offering cash and not visa gift cards. If the firearm is collectible like old Mausers, Nagants, Enfields then I am willing to offer more for them. I do not plan to purchase junk firearms they can leave those for the buyback.

You have to be knowingly in possession of a stolen gun. As long as the serial isn't obliterated and they don't tell you it's stolen, you're fine. Anyone who tells you it's stolen upfront is either a sting or a very stupid criminal.

A lot depends on (A) Do the "Authorities" control the venue / property where things are taking place?

Houston held one a the Reliant Center and there was no getting out of your car for ANY reason.   They had officers on ATVs riding up & down keeping "an ever watchful eye" upon everyone there.

If the "Authorities" didn't like what you were doing (even getting out of your vehicle while waiting in a long non-moving line just to speak to someone - the "Authorities" could kick you right out.

Happened to Brandon Herrera in San Antonio when he showed up at their gun "buy back" for the LOLS.

We Got Kicked Out of a Gun Buyback

Also something that might affect being able to "buy" from individuals there, is how are they paying?

A "restricted" gift card (can only be used to make a purchase at Wal-Mart or HEB)?

When Brandon Herrera was in San Antonio the "Authorities" were giving out HEB gift cards - and they ran out of cards.

A not many scary guns (although someone at the Houston Buy Back got a CETME), but from what I saw, some dang nice revolvers and grandpa's old deer rifles come across the tables sadly to be destroyed.  Seems many guns there come from urban yuppies who have had a parent pass away and so they want to get rid of those icky dangerous guns before they load themselves and hop out the door looking for a school to shoot up...

Good Luck you plucky players in Dallas for success!

Currently it is being hosted at the Dallas Sherriff's Department Training facility and it has a long public sidewalk right in front of it as indicated in red on the following picture. From what I know their is no law stating you can not hold a sign on a public sidewalk saying "I Pay Cash 4 Firearms".  I plan to park my vehicle at an offsite location across the street in one of the areas highlighted in green on the attached photo.

When someone comments on my sign or talks to me from their car and wants to sale for cash, I will tell them to meet me across the street to complete the transaction. I 100% will be using the crosswalk as indicate in Blue to ensure that I do not get harassed by any of the local LEO's.

My tentative plan is to be there at least an hour before it starts incase people arrive early like the events that happened in San Antonio and other buybacks. I will also scout the area tonight on my way home from work to see if there are any changes to the roads or any indications of the way it will be set up tomorrow.

As long as you stay out of "their enforced area" (as in you on the public sidewalk along a public street) & do "business" on a private property lot across the street,  then the "friendly & ever helpful LEOs" might not like it, but they should not have any legal leg to stand on the harass or stop you or others.

Good Luck on Saturday.   Be sure to post after action reports!

It was a great showing from the Pro-2a community and there were approximately 150 people doing the same thing as me. I got the chance to meet Donut, Eli and Brandon (YouTube guys) out there checking out the happenings so that was awesome for me.

The atmosphere was good and the Sherriff’s department left everyone alone for the most part unless you tried to go into their compound. As long as you stayed on the side of the road or sidewalk you were fine.

I would estimate that 6 out of 10 cars were willing to sell before entering the buyback area. However of those that were willing to sell probably only 1 out of 10 had anything worth while. Probably 90% of the ones that were not willing to sell would not make eye contact with you or they would look like they were cursing you out and to leave them alone.

Ultimately my day was successful because I walked away with a nice S&W 4506 and 12 gauge shotgun. There was at least one M1 Garand turned into the event for destruction even after someone offered them market value for it.

NICE 4506!!

Congratulations to those who showed up and saved good guns from a terrible fate!

I went to one years ago at Reunion Arena before they tore it down.  I had previously posted about it describing how the DPD was there to run interference and the local activists were the ones bringing in guns, working the tables, and doing all the media.  I was not allowed to talk with people walking in with their DPS escorts.

It was a total joke and failure, like all of these.
