I just moved to Georgia, and I'm wondering if there is a place to find a concise set of laws in this state. The pinned thread seems to deal with specific cases rather than a complete picture. I did take a look at the NRA ILA's gun law summary: https://www.nraila.org/gun-laws/state-gun-laws/georgia/

It looks like there isn't much to worry about. No limits on types, amount purchased, magazines. The only permit required is a carry permit. No distinction made between open or concealed carry. I assume it's ok to build your own out of 80% receivers (ooOOoOO ghost guns). NFA items are a-okay if you follow federal law.

It looks like private sale of both longarms and handguns is legal without going through an FFL. It looks like shipping to a buyer within the state is also fine, not just face to face sales.

Is there anything funky about GA law that I should worry about? Any local laws to worry about (it looks like y'all have statewide preemption). Will Atlanta cops harass you if you open carry? Are any of my assumptions above wrong?

Thanks!

yup, read that, thanks. It's more about specific cases than an overview, though. Or is your point that we want to keep all law related questions in that thread?

Thanks!

You've pretty much got it.  No permit required to have firearms in your personal vehicle, you can have a firearm in your personal vehicle at work except for certain locations (primarily power plants, certain government contractors, power and water plants, other sensitive facilities, and which have controlled access to their parking lots), "no guns" signs don't have any legal weight, prior permission required to carry in a church, etc...

My apologies if I came across snarky. I wasn't sure if you missed that sticky or not. I usually just skim past them myself.

That case is interesting. I did not think you needed a permit for a long gun.

If it really was a "rifle" as the report says (and not an AR15 pistol) then it probably has a 16" barrel.  Which means it isn't actually a "long gun".  ;-)  I'll be watching this one too!

It looks like contrary to the news report calling this a rifle, the gentleman actually had an AR pistol.

A man has been arrested after police say he had an AR-15 sticking out of his backpack at a popular Cobb County mall on Thanksgiving night.
Lecarl Weems also opened the bag at Cumberland Mall and showed the gun to a shopper who asked about it.
“Weems also mentioned that he decided to carry the rifle in his backpack because he did not want to cause chaos inside of the mall,” the report stated.
Either Lecarl Weems is very retarded, or the AJC writer is retarded, or both.  That's some kind of fucked up, aside from the whole carry permit thing.

That's why I like my KelTech sub 2000 - backpack carry without the risk of being noticed.
