I’m mil and submitted my packet to Newport for out-of-state and got a call for an in person interview and the officer said it has to be in my residence. Is this common?

Maybe because you’re military?

Otherwise, no I have not heard of that before.

They have not passed safe storage laws or anything of the sort yet…so that’s a new one on me.

By "it" do you mean the gun has to be in your residence, or that you have to reside in the place that is on your (out of state) license?
