Sardis - Lion’s Den, they used to have hand cut prime rib on Friday and Saturday nights for about $17 with two sides Guntersville - Top o’ the River, good seafood Ft. Payne - BBQ Place, quality can vary but when it’s good it’s good Anniston - Mata’s Pizza, it’s Greek pizza and grinders. Pizza isn’t the usual mozzarella, maybe white cheddar and provolone mix? Idk Albertville & Gadsden - Mater’s, really good Italian pizza, they have a location in both towns |

If you’re in Albertville, skip Mater’s and hit El Sol King Pollo directly across the street. |

But the family sold out about 10-12 years or so ago and retired. Last I was in there (after the sale), they still had a lot of the same employees there, so there's that. Libby's in Ardmore is nothing to write home about. The one in Madison is the one I like. I haven't been to the one in Somerville, but for being a bit out of the way, it does seem to do good business (if that's and indication).......Now I'm thinking I should find a time to go check them out..... |

Or I might stop by next time I pick up another load of milled lumber from sawyer. |

A few years ago he sold his BBQ in the parking lot of that run down gas station, that hasn't sold gas in many years. Today that building is his "restaurant". It is still a hole in the wall but he is building the business and has a few employees. I'm happy to support that. Brisket may be in my future since I'm off Friday.... |

Char, Revivalist, Agave and Rye, and Domaine South are all pretty good. Old Black Bear in Madison The Railyard in Decatur If you like pizza, Valentinas on Huntsville Brownsferry is really good. Can be busy at times, and they don't have a ton of seating, but I hear they are building a new place just to the west of where they currently are. |

I got free lunch at Connor's in HSV a couple weeks back. Shrimp and Grits reminded me of SC. |

Brisket may be in my future since I'm off Friday.... *MS: Pork or Chicken sandwich, cole slaw on the side (small), french fries and four chicken wings. Not a bad deal for ~$11. Pork sandwich was pretty good; wings were ok; fries were cold but we live ~20 miles from the place and I picked it up for take out. I got my wife mild BBQ sauce; mine was Hot. A bit hot but not overwhelmingly "burn your mouth to shit" hot. @Saker13. |

We are slacking on rucking right now. The summer heat stopped us from doing 6 miles and work has been an ongoing issue - at least for me since I got promoted. I hope to start back up as soon as next week tho. As far as restaurants go, we just ate at Amerigo on south parkway. Very spendy but really really good. I also had the opportunity to eat at JW's steak house in Priceville a few weeks ago. Again, spendy, but really good steak. Connors is definitely good and can be spendy, but their lunch specials are reasonable for what you get. They just opened up Slim Chickens on south parkway. Its ok. I think Tenders is better. Pappos Pizza and Pub opened up next to Rosies. They're ok. I really wish The Boot would expand their menu. I know for a fact the owner can cook really good, authentic Italian food. I had the opportunity to go to a party they threw for a friend of theirs. The food was amazing. Unfortunately almost none of it is on the menu Bad Dad's Burger is pretty good. I love Toy Box Bistro. Best potato salad in Hville. If I think of any more I'll post. |

El Cazador there are like 4 or five places around town. Great tacos and affordable. Earth and Stone pizza at campus 805 has fantastic pizza and is attached to a brewery. Char across from Whole Foods. I get the Char burger done rare. Not cheap but not the most expensive. Toy Box Bistro is good. Haven’t been there in a while. La Esquina Cocina downtown is good. There is a small fancy cocktail bar above it to the left that was kinda cool. On the more expensive side: Purveyors, Nick’s Risorante, Cotton Row, and I think it’s Mazzaras Vinoteca. The wife likes Purveyors over Cotton Row. Cotton Row used to be awesome but now it just feels like they are charging ridiculous amounts for tiny portions. Commerce Kitchen gets a thumbs down. I’ve eaten there twice and was not impressed. Got a steak that was cold and maybe frozen in the middle a couple of years ago. Salt and Light is a food truck that has some great food. They have weird hours and operate mostly out of a Catholic Church on Bailey Cove Road. |

If we're talking Mexican I can speak to that with a little experience. My wife is a Mexican food junky. I'm moderately sure we've eaten at every Mexican place on the parkway, from Meridianville south to the river. For authentic Mexican, El Cazador on south parkway. Nothing compares. We eat at El Vaquero on the parkway about 2x a week, if not more now that they do breakfast. Theyre food is average at best, but the staff and owners are freaking awesome. I think the best Americanized casual dining Mexican food place in H'ville is Phil Sandoval's, hands down, even after he sold it back to the owner of Rosies. He used to cook / run Rosies and made his own place. Its WAY better than Rosies. Rosies is over priced and bland. Chuys is a fraud. The worst Mexican place we've eaten at was La Finka on Airport. Just awful. I usually give a restaurant 2x before I declare I wont eat there again. I gave them once. |

Over the past couple of months, I've eaten in/around Huntsville at at Connor's (always good), Slim Chickens, SuperChix (near the stadium), City Cafe Diner (on Drake; simple but I like it), Jim 'N Nick's BBQ (on University Dr), Ted's BBQ (on University Dr), Rosie's Cantina (an easy go-to for Mexican), and Original Valentina's Pizzeria in Madison. I'm in VA, but at a wedding this past Oct, the groom's best man told me he worked at Original Valentina's Pizzeria, so a couple weeks later I visited and tried it. |
