BFA-backed resolution to appear on August ballot despite efforts to shut down Ohio House
Not long after I took the picture above last Wednesday, May 10, protesters in the gallery and outside the chamber began chanting and screaming in an attempt to shut down the Ohio House of Representatives.
House Speaker Stephens ordered the Sergeant at Arms to clear the room, which means everyone in the gallery, including BFA leaders, were kicked out.
Opponents were trying to prevent Senate Joint Resolution 2 from being passed and put on the ballot for a special August election.
SJR 2 is an attempt to protect our state constitution from outside special interests like Bloomberg and Everytown who want to come into the state and spend millions of dollars to impose gun control.
Groups such as Ohio Right to Life, Ohio Restaurant Association, Sportsmen's Alliance, National Federation of Independent Businesses in Ohio, American Center for Law & Justice, and the Ohio Chamber of Commerce also support SJR 2 for a wide variety of other reasons.
But it all boils down to the same idea: Ohio's constitution is our foundational document. It should be amended only when there is broad consensus, not every time the political wind changes direction or when deep-pocket activists want to buy their way onto the ballot and do an end-run around the legislators Ohio citizens have elected.
Opponents, with the help of the media, are lying about the issue, claiming SJR 2 is undemocratic. But the fact is, most states, and the United States itself, have a high bar for amending a constitution.

Gun Rights on the August Ballot and the Ohio House Insurrection.
We also name the Republican legislators who voted against protecting Ohio's constitution and our Second Amendment rights.
