Read the article and was confused as to how many Pro and Anti-gun Reps and Senators were elected/re-elected.
My (imperfect) sense is that that the Anti-gunners obtained a few more seats than before the election. FWIW, Anti-gunners were already in the majority in both RI House and Senate.
What I suggest is that any House Rep and/or Senator either being a Member or former Member of an Anti-gun Organization, AND/OR accepting money from an Anti-gun organization
with pledges to follow such Orgs agenda be asked--no, demanded-- to RECUSE themselves from voting on firearms related bills, either in Committee, or on the floor of either chamber.
Suggest
challenging such bought-and-paid-for legislators long before they get to vote on anything. Will make their political lives miserable. Nobody likes a Pol that has been bought and paid for. Hammer that point home in local newspapers and on local media. Show to the public that these legislators are "bought". Make them
uncomfortable. Have friends send in letters afterwards questioning their objectivity. Make them squirm.
Every Pol will try to say they are independent of their campaign donors, but we all know better than that. Put them on the spot and accuse them of being influenced by Big Money campaign donors. Make them deny it, if they can.
The mere fact of putting them in the position of denying being influenced by campaign donors makes them look like liars, and most folks will see it.
See Alinsky's "Rules For Radicals"; Works both ways, LOL! RULE 4: "Make the enemy live up to its own book of rules."
"If the rule is that every letter gets a reply, send 30,000 letters. You can kill them with this because no one can possibly obey all of their own rules. (This is a serious rule. The besieged entity's very credibility and reputation is at stake, because if activists catch it lying or not living up to its commitments, they can continue to chip away at the damage.)"
Suggest you find the ProJo article and look at it. Also suggest you investigate your RI REP/Senator to see if they have taken $$ from Anti-gun orgs, and demand their recusal on voting on such bills.
Open Secrets.org is good for National candidates.
This site will be useful for State Candidates, but will require some digging:
Follow The Money Sent an e-mail to a "friendly" RI State legislator about this. We'll see.
Suggest you all send appropriately excerpted form of this post to your State Legislators.
We here in RI all know that Drastic firearms laws WILL be proposed in near future.
Suggest it is "high time" to
politely let your RI State Legislator how you feel. "Early Bird Gets the Worm."
Make sure to suggest to like-minded friends, family members, and relatives to respond to Pols, and to provoke them in public. It >>might<< be necessary to gently "suggest" to such people to copy/paste an e-mail a message that was written by you for them in case they can't construct their own message. Make damn sure they agree with it beforehand.
