Ok, "5 day" cruise out of Mobile on the Carnival Fantasy.
Left on Monday, got back in Sat.
2 full cruise days + Monday night, 2 port days, 1 at Cozumel, 1 at Progresso.
We got a late boarding appt, so had to park in offsite parking, no issue, dropped luggage at port check line, 2 min ride, $90 to park, continuous shuttles.
Were through security and checked in, on board, under 30 min.
We usually have the ultimate drink and upcharge dine packages on the 7 day RC cruises we take, so take this for what it's worth.
Cheers package was $50 per person, includes Specialty coffees, sodas, energy drinks, bottle waters, and up to 15 alcoholic beverages a day.
$10 pour of Scotch/Bourbon, or $12 Patron Margarita, X 15.............if you have 5 drinks a day it's worth it, with everything else that's included.
No specialty dining on this ship, it's their oldest boat, and although it shows in a few places, it's kept really clean and some of the throwbacks are charming.
Plenty of food, though:
-Buffet, of course, (which carried many of the main dining dishes for dinner, unsure if same quality).
-Pizza 24/7 at all times but breakfast rush, (they make omelets at the pizza station).
-Deli with a ton of cold and hot sandwiches, the meatball melt on the onion cheese bun was outstanding.
-Blue Iguana Burrito/Nacho bowl/wrap station (think Moes), pick meat, add ons, etc, then top with stuff off the salsa bar. Great quality.
-Guy Fierie's Burger bar, a damn decent "smashburger" with good quality beef, cheddar cheese, and tons of fancy toppings, started asking for just the patty with cheese, rivals some of the best I've had on land.
-Main dining.......edible, but nothing special. We went mainly for the company and entertainment.
You can pay extra for a few of the upcharge items, but I wouldn't.
Interior cabin:180 some odd SF, RC interiors are around 140 -150.
3 closets, safe, bathroom was bigger than we're used to, as well.
Bedding was more comfortable than what we're used to on RC, didn't wake up sore once.
Ship has a gym, spa, several bars/lounges, disco, casino, comedy shows (so-so), art auction, theatrical shows (didn't go), your usual karaoke and trivia......
One downside to an older ship is one fairly small pool, if you're a big fan of people soup, you'll need to get out pretty early on sea days.
Did have a water slide on the top deck, never partook.
Main strip with various shops, duty free liquor/cigarettes, etc.
Staff was helpful, on target, and friendly.
"Mr Justsayin!" as I'm simply walking by, on the third day......
Definitely more of a "party boat" than RC, but a pretty good value I'd consider again for a shorter cruise.
If you hit Cozumel, I STRONGLY suggest
Mr Sancho's, incredible value for $55 a person.
This is NOT arranged through Carnival, but it's not 15 min from the pier, and was $17 for two by taxi each way.
Reserve ahead, for $5 a head, if you show up at the property without reservations you might not be let in the security gate.
Order food and drinks off a menu, they bring everything to you wherever you choose to set up.
Great quality, great staff, clean facility.
If you hit Progresso, stay AWAY from the Carnival "Private beach
experience" shore excursion, and pick the "Private Beach
Resort getaway"
All but one couple we met were disappointed in the Carnival endorsed shore excursions in Progresso.
As were we.
