Thinking about renting a boat on Sunday for my Wife's birthday.  They only have 8 hour rentals though and I'm worried it might be a bit much for the 2 kids (7, 4).  What do you guys do in that area?

We go out there a good bit. It’s not a huge body of water like Lake Murray. Basically a really wide river channel that goes for maybe 10-15 miles. It was pretty muddy when I went out there a couple weeks ago. The islands are all open to the public for day use but no overnight camping. Clearwater Cove, Beaver Creek, and Dutchman’s Cove all have decent restaurants, but I’m not sure if they are open yet. The fishing is good. It’s a nice place to spend a day. Definitely keep an eye out for floating debris, and I wouldn’t go much north of the state park where it narrows if you don’t know the channel.

Well, how did it go?  We just moved to Wateree a few weeks ago.  Still expecting to have to pack up and move back home, it still feels like a dream.
