Any members in the Naugatuck Valley area contractors/roofers?

Just found my chimney is leaking a little into the attic . I'm pretty sure it just needs the flashing resealed as it's on the outside of the chimney.

2 story + attic colonial, if it matters.

Not a roofer, but I can recommend:
Smart Care Exteriors LLC
203-445-1133
roofersCT.com

They did a plumbing vent boot replacement and shingle repair when I lived in Monroe.
Pro:  They respond very quickly, professional workers and show up on the scheduled day.
Con:  They are expensive (cost me about $700); their estimate will be higher than others you might get from some "handyman".

Make sure the crown of your chimney is in good shape and the mortar joints are sound. If not, water gets behind the bricks and leaks out in the house. Ask me how I know.......

I had a leak on ceiling. First roofer said it was the crappy flashing job. Flashing was done terrible and wrong. Had it fixed using lead. Still leaked.

Chimney crown was cracked and I had a couple loose bricks. Hired a chimney specialist and he “repaired it”. Worked for two years then leaked again. The repair did not last. Fixed it ourselves and it has been fine for over six years now.

On a side note. Got to our place in Florida and there is a stain on the ceiling. Roofer was just here to give estimate. Tile roof, so the tiles need to be removed and the underlayment needs repair in two spots. Fun times!

Thanks for the suggestions/info. I had someone coming to look at it at 4pm today... he calls me at 3pm to tell me he came down with something and then asks if it's an emergency

I have 2 people coming tomorrow to give me prices

If possible climb the roof with each of them and be present. I don't trust any of these contractor repair people,  unless yoi know them from prior experience.

I had a cocksucker show up at my house because I thought we needed a new roof. I found moisture in attic on our storage bins.

I wasn't home  when the roof guy came... I was left a quote for new roof because I was missing shingles, this that the other....yadada yay. I pulled up my security footage, the fat fucking loser didn't even go on our roof. He got out of his truck, stood on my front lawn for 30 seconds , goes back to truck... writes his proposal and sticks it in my mailbox.

I called my capenters that I use for decks,  kitchen and bathroom remodel and ask if they are experienced with roofing, they are. They come and walk my entire roof... no missing shingles at all. They estimate roof no older than 10 years, we've lived there for 6 years... bottom line, they believe it was from a driving rain storm and perhaps the ice and water shield on a valley wasn't installed correctly... they fixed it for $300.

Never ever trust these scum bags unless you know them

Ouch, that sucks, glad you got it taken care of though. I just had someone come out, didn't want to go on the roof to look at it, just gave me prices for sealing and replacing the flashing. Then tells me that unless they install a new roof and rebuild the chimney they warranty nothing. The sealing I somewhat understand, but if you install new flashing for $1500 I'm not just gonna cross my fingers that you do it properly.

I have a neighbor who is a roofer coming to look at it later. I keep telling my wife, this is exactly why I wanted a ranch. I hate not being able to do shit myself

Not all contractors are crooks. Many are but to paint them with a broad brush is silly.

Call lots of roofers explain what you need. The ones that try to sell you a roof on the phone cross off the list. The good ones will take pictures, explain what they see and how they suggest to fix it.

How old is the roof? Most asphalt roofs are good for 20-25 years at most. If it is 15 yrs old and the roofer suggests replacing it he is propane right. The shingles get brittle with age. Trying to weave in new shingle among old brittle shingles is difficult.

Seems to be a common theme lately. I'm assuming it's less of guys being lazy and more of an insane amount of work with the way houses are flying off the market.

I'm the same way, I decided to fix some paint on my mom's house over the summer... got up on roof of the porch and had a real moment myself lmao

I ended up having my mom's neighbor fix my roof as he's apparently been a roofer for 30+ years. He was able to show me from the ground that it was likely the bottom corners of the flashing allowing water to be blown up inside, which was exactly the situation (water would only get it when very windy and it was on the side the wind would come from). After going on the roof he said they did a terrible job installing the flashing and it definitely needed sealing. Charged me $50 (I gave him more than that since we know him).
