For the wrong reason.  Drive by that church at least weekly, usually more than weekly.

Stay safe.

Normally that kind of domestic related murder-suicide wouldn't even make regional news, but the socialist media is beating the drum for gun control hard these days.  Ames isn't what it used to be.  When I was a kid there we didn't lock the doors at night.

With the exception of one or two small areas I have no problems with Ames.  Know quite a few of the LEOs in the area.  There's about a dozen knuckleheads that cause most of their problems.

I have a coworker who is an EMT and was working near there at the time, and heard it on the scanner....so he rushed over there to render first aid. No gun, no vest, very basic first aid kit and headed into what he thought was an active shooter situation. Obviously when he got there it was over but he tried.

That's a man right there, not like those pussy cops down in Texas.

Uvalde is a mostly Hispanic Democrat controlled area.  It's not like most of the rest of the state.  The horrible thing is a lot of the cops and others like EMTs who where there wanted to go in promptly, but were prevented by the Chief...  who is a Democrat politician.  And now they're being pressured to stay quiet about what happened.

In most cases everywhere, it isn't usually the rank and file officers that are the problem.  It is the upper level management who are often appointed by or otherwise have their strings pulled by liberal Democrats, especially in the bigger cities.  I know a the Chief of the PD at a small town near here, even smaller than Uvalde.  I can tell you he'd be right there with the other officers going in if something like that happened in his town.

I've never thought those officers were a representation of the entire Texas LEO community. I remember during the Dallas shooting / standoff situation where the dirtbag was eventually killed with a robot bomb the Dallas police performed heroically and also gave mad respect to Dallas Fire/EMT that refused to stand down in safe zones until LEO had the area clear. Those men and women were the best representative members of law enforcement.

But at least some cops in Texas have the blood of those kids on their hands

Most of the blame is on one guy.  He kept officers out until the BP agents quit listening to him and went in anyway.  He also ordered people arrested who tried to go in on their own.  He kept people out for over an hour, and that probably cost at least 1/2 the lives that were lost.  If he had allowed his men to go in earlier rather than wait for SWAT to come out of San Antonio it would not have been nearly as bad.

One guy.  A politician wearing a badge.  That's where the problem was at.  He needs to be held responsible, and he may be yet.  I can't believe he hasn't been lynched.
